PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bill Cosby's lawyers are arguing in a new appeals filing that it was “fundamentally unfair” to let prosecutors use Cosby's damaging deposition from a sex accuser's lawsuit against him at trial. The filing made Tuesday largely focuses on what Cosby believes was a binding promise from a district attorney that he wouldn't be charged in the case. A spokeswoman for the Montgomery County district attorney's office isn't commenting but says prosecutors will file a response within a month. The 83-year-old Cosby is serving a three- to 10-year prison term for three counts of felony sex assault. 619

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — President Donald Trump’s campaign has filed plenty of lawsuits in six states as he tries to upend an election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden. The strategy may have played well in front of TV cameras, but it's proved a disaster in court, where judges uniformly have rejected claims of vote fraud. The latest case ended Saturday, when a federal judge in Pennsylvania said Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani presented only “speculative accusations” and no proof of rampant corruption in the vote. After a hand recount of nearly 5 million votes in Georgia, Biden maintained a 12,000-vote lead over Trump. The conclusion of the recount means that Biden is the projected winner of the state and its 16 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press.Georgia's audit is required by a new state law and wasn’t in response to any suspected problems with the state’s results or an official recount request. The Trump team has requested a recount of votes following the audit.A law school professor says the suits threaten the future of elections because so many Americans believe the claims being made by Trump's team. 1138

Please see below for a full statement regarding the recent Detroit Metro Times article provided by our legal counsel. The author chose not to include our full statement and, as a result, we are opting to share it with you.Mr. Perkins,Thank you for reaching out to Founders before publishing your column. Founders will soon be providing its full response to Mr. Evans’ claims when it files a motion to dismiss the case in its entirety. This motion will include documentary proof that neither Mr. Evans’ race nor retaliation played any part in Founders’ decision to end Mr. Evans’ employment. I would ask that you reserve judgment or comment on this case until you actually see the evidence presented by the parties. In the event that you will not, I understand that a person unfamiliar with most of the facts in this case, and a person unfamiliar with the obligations that individuals are under when they give deposition testimony, might perceive Mr. Ryan’s statement as noteworthy. It is not. First, as I doubt you’re aware, Mr. Evans himself has testified – unequivocally and under oath – that Mr. Ryan is not racist and was his friend; so whatever point Mr. Evans is trying to make by leaking deposition testimony to you is undone by his own words. Second, this testimony is not Founders’ defense in this case as you allege. Founders evaluated and decided to terminate Mr. Evans based only on his job performance. Mr. Evans’ poor job performance will be apparent when Founders files its upcoming motion. Third, through this testimony, Mr. Ryan was simply saying that he does not assume anything about individuals’ race or ethnicity unless they tell him that information. While it might be acceptable to speculate about this type of thing in casual conversation, Mr. Ryan was not having a casual conversation. He was under oath when he made these statements. As all deponents are instructed, Mr. Ryan was directed not to guess, assume or speculate in his deposition. This is the reason for his answer. The fact that Mr. Evans is selectively leaking this type of information to you indicates that, unlike Founders, he has no evidence to support his position in this case. Founders looks forward to its day in court, and, now that discovery has closed, it is more confident than ever that it will prevail.Patrick M. EdsengaAttorney at LawMiller Johnson 2357

Owning a vehicle, or even renting one, can be very costly. But there's a company, referred as the Airbnb of cars, that claims to help you make and save money. The California-based company Turo is a peer-to-peer carsharing service. Christie and her husband heard about the online car rental service two years ago. With having to care for three children, they decided it was time to make some extra cash, so they posted their car for rent on Turo. "It's really just posting pictures of your car, and they set you up with a photographer if you want professional pictures done of your car," explains Christie.Depending on how new and nice your vehicle is, Christie says Turo allows you to price your car accordingly. Her Jeep Wrangler rents for 9 a day. At first, Christie says they raked in about 0 a month, which was just enough to pay the car payment. But as they got more reviews from renters, they were making enough to supplement an income. "I would say our profit, 0 at least," says Christie. "During the summer months, it can be up to ,400 in profit."Making that kind of money is great. But, Christie says there are a few sacrifices you have to be willing to make. "If somebody books last minute, it's kind of being able to rearrange my schedule to be able to meet them."A majority of the time, Christie has to drive 30 minutes to the airport to drop the car off with the renter at the airport. Another downside: a lot of miles have been put on her car. She says in just two years, renters have put 51,000 miles on her Jeep. Not only does Christie rent out her car, but she has actually rented a car through Turo while on vacation in Saint Louis. She says her family was on a tight budget. They found a compact car for 0 for an entire week.If she went through a well-known national car rental service, it would have cost her around 1 a week. She saved 1 by renting through Turo. When Christie meets a renter, she checks their driver's license and gives them the keys. It's that simple and easy to use.  2143

Pennsylvania GOP Rep. Charlie Dent announced Tuesday he is resigning in the "coming weeks," a decision that came after he first said he'd be retiring at the end of his term in Congress. The moderate Republican tweeted the decision came after discussions with his family and "careful reflection.""I am especially proud of the work I have done to give voice to the sensible center in our country that is often overlooked or ignored," he said in the statement. "It is my intention to aggressively advocate for responsible governance and pragmatic solutions in the coming years."In a statement Tuesday, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, thanked Dent for his service."Charlie Dent is a voice of reason and civility that breaks through the chaos and partisanship of Washington and he will be missed," he said. The governor's office also announced that there will be a special election to fill Dent's seat, but no set date yet.The Pennsylvania Supreme Court's February order creating new congressional districts in the commonwealth beginning next term included language that, if there were to be a special congressional election before the new term next January, it would be held under the 2011 congressional district map.Already, 43 House Republicans have announced this cycle they are retiring, running for another office or resigning outright, including Dent and House Speaker Paul Ryan. Democrats, who need to pick up about two dozen seats to reclaim control of the House, are hoping that President Donald Trump's unpopularity helps lead to a blue wave in this fall's midterm elections. At the time of his announcement last year that he would retire, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Stivers said that the lawmaker's "leadership in Congress will be sorely missed," and added that he expects the seat to remain in Republican hands.Dent's office has not yet responded to CNN's request for when exactly he would leave office.Dent, who has served in Congress since 2005, previously told CNN Trump wasn't the determining factor in his decision to retire at the end of his term.  2112
