SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Friends are expected to come together to remember the Navy sailor shot and killed while checking on an apparent stalled vehicle.A vigil for 21-year-old Curtis Adams will be held Saturday at Breakers Beach on Naval Station Coronado. Those attending will need valid military identification since the vigil is on-base.Adams was shot and killed on Interstate 15 near Mountain View in the early morning hours of Oct. 27. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hours after Navy officials said all fires aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard were extinguished, smoke was visible coming from the vessel at Naval Base San Diego early Friday morning.Radio scanner traffic obtained by ABC 10News indicated crews at the scene reported at least two fires onboard the ship and called for evacuations at around 1 a.m. Friday. The 10News Breaking News Tracker observed smoke coming from the ship’s front end.At around 5 a.m., a Navy spokesperson confirmed to ABC 10News that no evacuations were ordered and all fires were out. The spokesperson said investigators were looking into the matter.On Thursday afternoon, Navy officials said all known fires aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard were declared out. The blaze on the ship erupted on the morning of July 12, and the firefighting efforts involving hundreds of crew members and thousands of aerial water drops took four full days.Navy officials said they will not know the exact cause of the fire until the ship can be inspected fully.ABC 10News learned Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday will be at Naval Base San Diego on Friday to inspect the USS Bonhomme Richard.During a Thursday afternoon press briefing, Rear Adm. Medical experts say it's not necessarily going to work.The lines were hours long in front of a Linda Vista testing site, just as long at sites around the county Sunday."There's a worrisome reason for that, people are planning to go visit their older relatives and they think they're going to be 100% safe," Dr. Davey Smith, Chief of Infectious Diseases at UC San Diego said getting tested Sunday or any day leading up to Thanksgiving could give you a false negative."If I get tested now, it doesn't mean that I'm not infected, it just means that I'm not actively shedding the virus," Smith said.According to the CDC the incubation period for the virus is 2-14 days."I thought Halloween was going to be the scary part of the year but November, December, January are just going to be really tough I think. We've got Thanksgiving coming up, then we have Christmas coming up and then New Year's and everybody is tired of being on lock down, it breaks my heart," Dr. Smith said leaning back in his chair.Data shows after each holiday this year, we've seen a spike in cases.The CDC and Dr. Smith urge everyone to gather virtually, or in small groups outside, socially distance and wash your hands often.We all know 2020 has been the year of sacrifices and Dr. Smith feels it too, "I'm really grateful for my niece who I have not met yet, because of the pandemic, I am so excited, I get pictures every day, so I'm pretty happy."All of us hopeful next year we can all be with our loved ones."If we can just get through the winter, I promise these vaccines and treatments are really going to change everything and that just means there will be more of us to celebrate next year," Dr. Smith said. 1811
