(KGTV) — Oceanside Police are investigating the discovery of a body near Capistrano Park Saturday.Police received a call about a body in a river bed near the park at about 1:30 p.m.The body was discovered, but was severely decomposed, police said.It's not known if the victim died of natural causes or if this is a homicide case, police added. 369

Officers rescued a couple in Connecticut early Wednesday morning who were caught in a flood after a woman yelled to her iPhone “CALL 911” to summon police.According to the Guilford Police Department, the couple was crabbing when the husband fell into the water and was trapped in the entrance of the sluice pipe that runs under the roadway. The woman was holding onto her husband, fearing if she let go, he would get sucked in.Two officers from Guilford Police arrived, and said they retrieved a rope to assist the woman in saving her husband.“One of the key reasons officers were able to locate the victim so quickly was because his wife had SIRI activated on her iPhone," the Guilford Police Department said. “Her phone was a significant distance away from where she was trying to save her husband and she could not let go of him. She shouted to SIRI to "call 911" and the phone immediately dialed and made contact with 911 fire dispatchers.”The phone’s GPS technology gave officers the location, allowing for a swift rescue.Amazingly, no one was injured from Wednesday’s incident. 1091

Maybe he has too much reverence for every laborious twist and turn of the gigantic novel, which seems more comfortable in a miniseries format rather than a tight two-hour package.You could hardly dream up a better cast. Dev Patel thrives in the lead role as adult David, granting him a can-do attitude that makes him easy to get behind amid all the challenges he faces.Hugh Laurie is deliciously cantankerous as the ne'er do well Mr. Dick, and Tilda Swinton is regal as Betsey Trotwood, whose own riches-to-rags tale echoes that of David.The producers assembled a refreshingly diverse cast to tell the old tale, and the choices largely make sense in historical context. Played by a man of Indian descent, the subtle racism and structural disadvantages David faces are all the more searing and impactful when they're based not on happenstance but partially on skin color.If only the story itself was injected with such reimagination. While the costumes and set design are exquisite, there's a stolid and creaky feel to the show that recalls a stuffy theatrical repertory production. Even at its best, Dickens is dense and bulky, and without much effort to recast and slim down the storylines for modern times, it's easy to get hopelessly lost amid the barrage of plodding plot developments.Despite its flaws, the film is a welcome sight for sore, theater-deprived moviegoers jonesing for a reason to grab a soda and bucket of popcorn and get back to the old routine. OJAI, Calif. (KGTV) - As many as 700 wild rats, along with dogs, rabbits, a parrot and a cat were found living in an Ojai home at the center of an elder abuse investigation, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday. Deputies were first alerted to the situation on Mar. 13, when they responded to a “check-the-wellbeing” call initiated by Ventura County Adult Protective Services. APS officials suspected Catherine Vandermaesen of not properly caring for her 96-year-old father, who lived at the home with Vandermaesen and her 74-year-old sister. Deputies who went to the family’s home said the smell of ammonia and urine was detectable 20 feet away from the house. Vandermaesen, they said, refused to let them into the home. A task force of Ojai deputies and detectives said Vandermaesen allowed her father and the animals to remain in conditions not fit for living. Vandermaesen’s father was taken to the hospital and is now under the care of Ventura County Adult Protection Services. Vandermaesen’s sister was also treated at the hospital for unknown reasons and gained temporary housing. Animal Control officials impounded the animals, including 55 rats, but estimated as many as 700 more rats were still loose in the two-bedroom home. Ojai Code Enforcement officials yellow-tagged the residence as a danger to occupants. Vandermaesen was arrested on suspicion of felony elder abuse and misdemeanor failure to care for animals. 1446
