SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s newest ride is shut down for maintenance, according to Cal/OSHA.According to the agency, Tidal Twister was shut down June 1, roughly two weeks after its opening on May 24. The ride was shut down to address mechanical issues. Cal/OSHA says SeaWorld is working with the manufacturer to repair the ride. RELATED: SeaWorld unveils Tidal Twister thrill ride at San Diego parkOnce the ride is ready to reopen, an inspection will have to be done by Cal/OSHA to ensure it can be operated safely. The ride recently opened as SeaWorld works to complete more rides in the San Diego park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several San Diego families got their loved ones home in time for the holidays.The Crew of the Future USS Tulsa arrived in San Diego Wednesday.  The ship is a brand new littoral combat ship that completed its maiden voyage from the Austal Shipyard in Mobile Alabama.The crew, from San Diego, had been gone for eight months. Before arriving in San Diego, the ship made several port calls and completed a successful transit through the Panama Canal.The ship’s commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2019, in San Francisco.  That is when the vessel will officially join the fleet. 628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University officials say two students have tested positive for coronavirus, but that the cases are not connected and the risk to the campus is low.A statement on behalf of the campus said the school confirmed Wednesday the two students had tested positive and that both students live off-campus. The students were tested by the college's Student Health Services.The two cases are not believed to be connected to any reported off-campus gatherings, the school statement said. RELATED: San Diego State fraternities ban social events this fall due to COVID-19"The two students did not interact with campus, or with any SDSU employees outside of the SHS COVID-19 Test Collection Booth, and were not in any other spaces utilized by the campus community. The SHS COVID-19 Test Collection Booth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected as part of patient care and enhanced COVID-19 disinfection protocols," the school statement read.Since March 2020, the school says it has had 27 confirmed COVID-19 cases within the broader campus community among faculty, staff, students, and visitors to campus, including the SDSU Imperial Valley campus.The school said the risk to others on campus is low and SHS is in the process of performing contact tracing.RELATED: SDSU begins 2020-21 school year with mostly virtual classes"SHS is in the process of speaking with the individuals known to have been in direct contact with the two separate students. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some parents in Poway are teaming up to help their kids when the school year begins with virtual learning in a few weeks.In the spring, when Ellie, 6, and her brother Ethan, 7, were learning Spanish while distance learning, their father, a college professor, and mother, a lawyer, were working from home."I had my daughter to my left. I had my computer in the middle, and my son at my right. Somebody needs to be there to review your work. With the distance learning, I believe they will have some one-on-one time but the majority of the time, they're still going to be working on their own," said Testa.Testa hopes the parental 'co-op' approach will give the parents a break and their kids a chance to socialize."We haven't figured out everything yet, but the will kids be bringing on their own lunches. No sharing of food. They'll be washing their hands a lot," said Testa.Testa says it may not be realistic to keep kids at that age from interacting from each other. She'll be relying on the other parents to be honest about any signs of illness."We trust each other to follow the health protocols," said Testa.Their school year is set to begin August 2. 2746

Snow Summit was a bit colder but a fabulous time as well.Finally we remember a little Lakeside girl: an Angel in Heaven, Hero on Earth, Forever in our Hearts. Kiera Larsen was ten years old when the family SUV began rolling down the driveway toward her playmates. She ran over and pushed two younger friends to safety but was crushed to death herself. Kiera was recognized with a Carnegie Hero medal and a personal letter from then President Barack Obama. We celebrate Kiera. 2918
