Some showed up ready to time any potential delays.“We got here early and it took 17 minutes and 40 seconds to vote,” said Torri Griffin who took her mother, Lena Joiner, to fill out their ballots at the pro basketball arena.Atlanta Hawks basketball head coach Lloyd Pierce moved from the sidelines on the court to the front lines of this early voting site.“Just doing my duty,” Pierce said. “Trying to help making voting easy for everybody.”According to the United States Elections Projects, more than 10 million Americans cast their ballots within the first day-and-a-half of 2020 early voting, a number that shatters the 2016 turnout.While many people tout the benefits of early voting, experts warn there could be some challenges. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) - An alleged serial rapist accused of attacking seven women while posing as a rideshare driver will be charged next month in Los Angeles.The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office said Nicolas Morales, 44, targeted women in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Alhambra, and West Hollywood.The crimes happened between October 2016 and last January, according to KABC.Morales faces 27 felony counts including rape, forcible oral copulation, sodomy by use of force, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and attempted kidnapping. He also used a knife in the crimes, officials said.Prosecutors did not provide details about the crimes. They asked for bail to be set at .3 million.If convicted, Morales faces a maximum possible sentence of 300 years to life in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration.An arraignment scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until March 8. 902

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rafer Johnson, who won the decathlon at the 1960 Rome Olympics and helped subdue Robert F. Kennedy's assassin in 1968, has died. He was 86. Family friend Michael Roth says Johnson died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. No cause was announced. Johnson was among the world's greatest athletes from 1955 through his Olympic triumph in 1960. The Associated Press reported Johnson won a national decathlon championship in 1956 and a silver medal at the Melbourne Olympics that same year.He lit the torch at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. In June 1968, Johnson was with Kennedy at a hotel in Los Angeles when the senator was shot by Sirhan Sirhan. Johnson, along with former NFL star Rosey Grier and journalist George Plimpton, helped in subduing the shooter. Kennedy died the next day.According to the Associated Press, Johnson called the assassination “one of the most devastating moments in my life.” 925

Lori Becerra has a lot of work to do, picking up the pieces of Category 4 Hurricane Michael.Becerra helps run Southern Assisted Care, a place seniors with Alzheimer’s call home.“With their cognition, they don’t always recognize what’s going on,” explains Becerra. “So, we tried to kind of keep it from them.Since Alzheimer’s patients don’t always process information the same way, Becerra says she didn’t want to create unnecessary stress.But how do you keep a Category 4 storm howling on the other side of a boarded-up window a secret?Becerra says they kept their residents entertained.  “In the middle of everything, being scary and you know you’re hearing trees come down and hearing wind howl, you’re turning on music on the radio and doing a dance party,” she says. “You’re putting out puzzles to do a puzzle.”Becerra says it was just about keeping her residents distracted.“And they haven’t been back outside since the storm so they don’t even realize what’s happened,” she says.The facility is now without running water, and Becerra expects to be running on generators for days, if not longer. She says she’ll take the burden of the stress, so the residents, as she puts it, can stay blissfully unaware.“It’s protected them from having to go through what we’re feeling emotionally when we see it,” Becerra says. 1331
