Illinois Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth gave birth to a baby girl Monday, her office announced, the first US senator to do so while in office."Bryan, Abigail and I couldn't be happier to welcome little Maile Pearl as the newest addition to our family and we're deeply honored that our good friend Senator (Daniel) Akaka was able to bless her name for us -- his help in naming both of our daughters means he will always be with us," Duckworth said in her office's statement.In her statement, Duckworth used the event to advocate that rules should be changed so she can bring her baby to Senate votes.Duckworth had her first child in 2014, when she was serving in the House of Representatives.An aide close to Duckworth told CNN she's doing well and taking 12 weeks to bond with her new daughter and take care of her family. She's staying in Washington, DC, for her maternity leave and is available to vote as needed.When she gave birth to her first daughter, she took her maternity leave at her home in Chicago, but this time she and her and her husband decided that she would give birth in the DC area in case she needs to vote, the aide said.Akaka -- a Democrat from Hawaii who served in Congress for more than three decades -- died Friday at age 93. He was previously responsible for giving Duckworth's first daughter, Abigail, her middle name of O'kalani.Duckworth is a retired Army lieutenant colonel who was a helicopter pilot in the Iraq War. (KGTV) — Two men were charged with assaulting two border patrol agents in separate incidents in the Imperial Beach area this week.Both incidents occurred Thursday night, according to the U.S. Attorney of Southern District of California.In the first incident, Imperial Beach Border Patrol says an agent encountered a five individuals at about 9:30 p.m., one of them identified as Frazy Jiron, a Honduran national. The agent ordered the group not to move, but Jiron stood up, according to officials.RELATED: Convicted murderer caught crossing border with migrants near San Ysidro Port of EntryWhen the agent tried to handcuff Jiron, the Honduran national appeared to say something to the others, causing them to also stand and begin to flee, according to border officials. Jiron elbowed the agent in the chest, the agent said, and a struggle ensued, causing both men to fall down a hill.Jiron was later arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.In the second incident, another border agent in Imperial Beach encountered a man at about 10:45 p.m., identified as Franklin Ariel Rochac-Garcia, border officials said. Rochac-Garcia was reportedly running toward the agent and refused the agent's requests to stop. Rochac-Garcia reportedly tried to punch the agent as he approached, but missed and the agent brought Rochac-Garcia to the ground.RELATED: Mexico's new president could change border policyRochac-Garcia got back up and began running south toward the border, officials say. He attempted to jump over the border fence but the border agent was able to detain him before he made it over.Rochac-Garcia, an El Salvadoran national, was arrested and admitted to being in the U.S. illegally, according to border officials.Both men are being charged with assault on a federal officer and illegal entry. 1840

In a scene reminiscent to what played out in Minneapolis on Memorial Day, Oklahoma City Police released video of a May 2019 incident of a man dying while in police custody.Body worn camera video was released to the public this week.The video shows as officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, Derrick Scott told officers multiple times “I can’t breathe,” a line that George Floyd used moments before he died in Minneapolis. One of the officers responded to Scott, “I don’t care.”The video shows officers struggling to place Scott in handcuffs.Unlike in the Floyd incident, the only video available from last May’s incident was from body camera footage.The May 2019 incident began on a call of a black man carrying a gun. After police arrived, officers talked to Scott. The body cam footage then showed officers chasing a fleeing Scott.Officers caught up to him and tackled Scott. Two officers straddled Scott until a third officer arrived and told Scott to stop resisting.It took all three officers to bring Scott into custody. An officer continued to hold a knee against Scott’s leg.Scott then didn’t say anything for four minutes, which prompted officers to call for EMTs. Scott died an hour later. An official autopsy stated that Scott had a collapsed lung at the time of his death, but did not give the manner for his death.The officers were cleared of wrongdoing. 1380
