VACAVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Crews were battling wildfires in the San Francisco Bay Area and thousands of people were under orders to evacuate Wednesday as hundreds of wildfires blazed across the state amid a blistering heat wave now in its second week. Gov. Gavin Newsom blamed the extraordinary weather and thousands of lightning strikes for 367 known fires, including 23 major fires or groups of fires. He said the state has recorded nearly 11,000 lightning strikes in 72 hours. Two teens in Florida tried to steal a car at a sports complex as a team of Clearwater police officers played softball, according to the Clearwater Police Department."They had no idea that basically the entire team out there was comprised of Clearwater police officers," said Sgt. Thomas Dawe.The incident happened on Monday evening at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater.The group of police officers was playing their second softball game of the evening. They were the only group playing softball and noticed the two teens walking around."Normally, there are not many fans due to COVID...They kind of seemed out of place. They weren't watching the game. They were just kind of lingering around so most of us took note of their behavior to start," said Sgt. Dawe.Clearwater Police said a 16-year-old girl stole a set of keys belonging to an umpire. The keys were placed on a table. The two teens took off running out of the sports complex.When the scorekeeper realized what happened, she yelled at the umpire who was out in the field.Sgt. Thomas Dawe, Cpl. Jarred Stiff and Officer Matthew Richmond chased after the two teens."It's just unfortunate that kids were trying to do what they did in order to get down to south St. Pete. There are other opportunities, other avenues to get places rather than taking those steps to commit a crime," said Cpl. Jarred Stiff.The police officers called for backup since they did not have handcuffs on them.The two suspects were charged with attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle. Both have been in trouble with the law before."Unfortunately, we were not able to win the game, but at least we were able to catch a couple of kids doing a bad thing," said Cpl. Two well-known slackliners from Utah have taken credit for dismantling the infamous "monolith" that gained international fame after it was discovered last week.Andy Lewis of Moab, Utah, said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that he was part of the group that knocked down the monolith last week. VALLEY CENTER (KGTV)- A former North County school security guard was sentenced Thursday after he was found guilty of sending inappropriate pictures to children online. Steven Lloyd Duncan was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in December 2018. Six months later he was sentenced to four years in state prison. Duncan was found guilty of four different charges related to child pornography. According to investigators, Duncan used social media platforms like Instagram to communicate with girls ranging in age of 10 to 14 years old. Investigators say he sent photos to underage children and received photos from children. During the investigation, 600 images and 350 videos of child pornography were found on Duncan’s phone and commuter. Duncan was a security guard at Valley Center High School for 11 years but the investigation shows the acts happened after his time working for the district. 928

Under a court settlement, people aren't supposed to be able to legally download plans for 3-D printed guns until Wednesday.But because designs for the guns have already been posted online, by Sunday more than 1,000 people had already downloaded plans to print an AR-15-style semiautomatic assault rifle, according to the office of Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.Shapiro has been fighting to keep 3-D printed guns out of Pennsylvania. At an emergency hearing held over the phone Sunday, the attorney general's office asked a judge for a restraining order that would block a website run by gun-rights group Defense Distributed from being accessible in Pennsylvania. The group's site allows people to download plans to make 3-D guns.At the hearing, Defense Distributed agreed to block Pennsylvania IP addresses for a few days until a more formal hearing could be held.Josh Blackman, a lawyer for Defense Distributed, told CNN on Monday that more than 1,000 AR-15 gun plans have been downloaded but wouldn't confirm Shapiro's claim that they were only downloaded since Friday."This is a free speech case. This isn't a gun case," said Blackman, who challenged Pennsylvania's efforts to block the downloads. "One state cannot censor the speech of a citizen in another state."Pennsylvania isn't the only state trying to bar access to 3-D printed guns. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced Monday he is leading a lawsuit in eight states and the District of Columbia to block a court action that would let people download plans for untraceable 3-D printed weapons.
