is reporting. Zimmerman's suit claims he was defamed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Mayor Pete Buttigieg two weeks ago on the anniversary of Martin's death. The suit is seeking 5 million in damages. NBC reported the suit claims that Warren and Buttigieg "defamed Zimmerman for political gain in misguided and malicious attempts to bolster their standings amongst African-American voters, all at Zimmerman’s expense.”Warren retweeted photos of Martin, and added, "My heart goes out to @SybrinaFulton and Trayvon's family and friends. He should still be with us today. We need to end gun violence and racism. And we need to build a world where all of our children—especially young Black boys—can grow up safe and free."Buttigieg's Feb. 5 tweet said "Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today. How many 25th birthdays have been stolen from us by white supremacy, gun violence, prejudice, and fear? 895

– a consortium of agriculture companies, NGOs and university partners who all share the same goal: using diversity to fuel the innovation behind feeding future generations. “In the next 30 years as population growth continues across the world, we’ll need to produce more food than we have in all of human civilization with fewer resources,” Kirkpatrick said. To solve this looming challenge, Kirkpatrick says the ag industry needs a variety of ages, races, genders, veterans, and people with disabilities who can find solutions that fit everyone’s needs. There’s a reason Colorado State University was chosen to lead the effort. “Colorado is such a wonderful place to be located for us because we are all of the things: we’re urban populations and rural communities, we’re tech and innovation and we are historic agriculture roots, and so we really are the cross-section of what’s happening in agriculture and across the world, and it all crystalizes here.” The need for diversity is clear when looking at the numbers. for officers who have been suspended for pushing a 75-year protester. Instead, they say they resigned because they don't feel they have legal protection from the city of Buffalo. On Friday, all 57 members of the Buffalo Police Department's Emergency Response Team resigned after two of its members, Robert McCabe and Aaron Torgalski, were suspended without pay after bystander video showed officers shoving a 75-year-old man to the ground during a peaceful protest.McCabe and Torgalski have since been charged with second-degree assault. The 57 officers who resigned only left their roles on the Emergency Response Team and are still with the department.Following the mass resignation, the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association (PBA) released a statement asserting it was a "show of support" with the McCabe and Torgalski. But two of those who resigned — who were granted anonymity for this story — say that's not the case."I don't understand why the union said it's a thing of solidarity. I think it sends the wrong message that 'we're backing our own', and that's not the case," one of the officers said."We quit because our union said [they] aren't legally backing us anymore. So, why would we stand on a line for the city with no legal backing if something [were to] happen? Has nothing to do with us supporting," said a second officer. One officer said that it's likely that many did resign as a show of support, but for many others, "that's not true.""The city, (Erie County District Attorney John Flynn), they're not representing those guys at all. They have to find their own lawyers; they have to come out of pocket."PBA president John Evans was not immediately available for comment, but in an email to PBA members provided to Scripps station WKBW, Evans said that the union would not provide legal defense to officers in any charges linked to the ongoing unrest."In light of this, in order to maintain the sound financial structure of the PBA it will be my opinion the PBA NOT to pay for any ERT or SWAT members legal defense related to these protests going forward," Evans' email read. "This Admin in conjunction with DA John Flynn and or JP Kennedy could put a serious dent in the PBA's funds."Officers say they're hesitant to put themselves in the line of duty during protests without proper legal backing."You can't ask people to do something, and then when they do it and it goes bad, then you just say they're on their own," one officer said.To read more on how Buffalo and Erie County elected officials responded to the ERT resignations, click 2562

in an attempt to chase down a car that rear-ended him.Olufemi S. Olomola, 38, was charged with two counts of abduction, reckless driving and felony hit and run for the Monday night incident.John Murray and Tameka Swann said Olomola picked them up from their home just before 8 p.m. Monday for a night out on the town. But, shortly after pulling away, they said someone rear-ended their Uber on Chamberlayne Avenue.“Our Uber attempted to pull over so that they exchange information, but the car didn’t stop behind us. They went around us and sped off and that’s when our Uber sped off behind him,” Swann said.Murray began to stream their trip on Facebook Live from the backseat. The driver pulled onto West Broad Street and raced through several red lights, according to the video. The couple said an SUV then crashed into the side of their car at West Broad Street and Arthur Ashe Boulevard. The video showed the driver continuing to speed away, narrowly missing a bicyclist.“At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 2800 block of West Broad Street for the report of a hit and run. Officers arrived and spoke to the driver who reported that while transporting passengers, his vehicle was struck by another car and that car left the scene,” a police spokesperson said.“That was the scariest moment of my life,” Swann said. “I have never been that scared in my life. It was a nightmare.”The couple says they suffered minor bruises and were checked out at the hospital.A spokesperson with Uber said they are also investigating the ride.“This driver’s behavior is concerning, and we have removed his access to the app pending investigation,” said an Uber spokeswoman.Anyone with information about the first hit and run or this incident is asked to call Detective G. Drago at (804) 646-1369.Olomola is due in court on Thursday morning. This story was originally published by Brendan King on 1909
