Bad news: There is a small chance an asteroid will collide with Earth. The good news: Mankind has more than 115 years to prepare for it. According to a Washington Post report, NASA is preparing for possible tactics to deflect the asteroid Bennu, which will approach Earth Sept. 21, 2135. As of today, NASA rates Bennu's chance of striking Earth at one-in-2,700.The asteroid is roughly 1,600 feet in diameter, and would not be an Earth-ending event if it struck. But that doesn't mean it couldn't cause damage, especially if it struck near a populated area. Bennu is likely dozens of times larger than the object that struck near Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013, causing hundreds of injuries, and thousands of broken windows. The event caused nearly million in damage to roughly 7,000 buildings. The 2013 event shows that even small objects are capable of causing massive damage. In 2016, NASA launched OSIRIS-REx, which will land on the asteroid and bring back samples. The information gathered could help NASA decide what steps it would take to deflect the asteroid. According to the Washington Post, NASA is working on a plan called the Hypervelocity Asteroid Mitigation Mission for Emergency Response, or HAMMER. NASA's HAMMER plan could involve using a nine-ton bulk impactor to push Bennu out of Earth's path. Another idea would be straight out of the movie "Armageddon," using a nuclear-type device to move the asteroid. A NASA engineer involved in the study told the Washington Post all of these ideas are theoretical. “We’re doing these design studies to prepare ourselves, so if we do find a threatening object, we’re better prepared to deal with it,” Brent W. Australian researchers have developed new technology that allows them for the first time to film a deep-sea swimming sea cucumber.For the time being, they're calling the creature a "Headless Chicken Monster." The name sounds like something a child would name their imaginary friend, but it's pretty accurate once you take a look at the headless blob. The strange sea cucumber was discovered using an underwater camera system in the Southern Ocean off the coast of East Antarctica. The high-tech camera is normally used for commercial long-line fishing, but in this situation, it worked quite nicely."We needed something that could be thrown from the side of a boat, and would continue operating reliably under extreme pressure in the pitch black for long periods of time," said Australian Antarctic Division program leader Dr. Dirk Welsford. "The cameras are providing important information about areas of sea floor that can withstand this type of fishing, and sensitive areas that should be avoided."The large area off the coast of East Antarctica, which is covered with cold-water corals and penguin foraging grounds, has been the focus of a bid to create a protection area — known as the Antarctic Conservation Zone.Now, researchers are hoping that the new technology that captured the rare footage can help the creation of that area.The proposal for protection has previously been endorsed by the commission's scientific committee three times, but China and Russia have blocked the proposal each year, according to a report in Naturer. 1592

As the east coast was hit with torrential downpours on Monday morning, the region's aging infrastructure struggled to keep up.Video posted to Twitter shows water pouring from the ceilings and down the steps into subway stations throughout New York City.According to the New York City Subway system's official Twitter account, trains began bypassing the Bryant Park station due to excess water. Video showed water raining from the ceiling and from light fixtures.  481
