But a group of Chula Vista students has it down to a science.Rancho Del Rey Middle School's Royal Robotics team is a "well-oiled machine," as they like to put it. "It's just an amazing amount of dedication."Thanks to the completeness of their design notebook, which houses all their data, the team hopes to grab the award for best design and have a championship banner to hang at Rancho Del Rey.But the team faces one last obstacle, getting to Kentucky."It is an enormous financial obligation that I'm trying desperately to make up because the funding is basically all us," Braito said.The team has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses and has raised almost half of their goal. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the person responsible for stabbing a man during a reported fight in Chula Vista.Police said they were called Wednesday just after 1:30 a.m. over a reported fight in the 500 block of Flower Street and that someone had been injured.Chula Vista Police arrived to find a Hispanic man in his 20s unresponsive with a stab wound on his upper body.The man was treated at the scene, but died of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.No suspect was in custody Wednesday and police could not offer a possible description.Chula Vista Police Homicide Detectives were investigation the stabbing and ask anyone with information to call 619-691-5074. 732

(KGTV) -- While most students in San Diego County are distance learning, there are some schools that are doing a combination of virtual and in-person learning.One school in the South Bay is working with a hybrid system that makes sure all students get the same learning opportunities.St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Chula Vista welcomed students back on campus a month ago. To keep class sizes small and following state guidelines, they split the older graders into separate classrooms.But not everyone returned to campus, as dozens of families chose to stay at home and do distance learning.So, the school put together a hybrid system that allows all students to participate in real time teaching no matter where they are.With the use of technology, the teacher can see the students at home and the students that are in both classrooms.Sixth-grade teacher Michael Hart said with the help of Zoom, a camera, and classroom speakers, he can engage all students in daily lessons.“I have a Logitech camera that tracks me so it will follow me around the classroom or if I’m behind my desk. It’s just a simple remote,” Hart said.He also uses an app that makes sure every student is called upon equally, so they can all participate in class discussions.Sixth-grader Zachary Lastrella told ABC 10News, “If Mr. Hart asks us a question either in here or in the Zoom or in the other room, then we can answer the question.”As for tests, all of the students complete those using their laptops via Google Forms.Hart added, “It’s able to randomize the questions, whether it’s multiple choice or fill in the blanks or an essay response, and it does come down to academic honesty.”Students say physically their “classrooms” may be different now, but the important elements are still there.Devraaj Jani, a sixth grade students, said, “We’re still in one class, and we’re still together as one.” 1908

(KGTV) — New businesses are set to call the Otay Ranch Town Center home in the coming months. Just a few months ago, the mall had more than a dozen empty storefronts and employees at the mall called it a ghost town. The new businesses moving in include Novo Brazil Brewing, Planet Fitness, and Barons Market.LONGFORM: Vacant storefronts reflect mall struggles at Otay Ranch Town CenterBrookfield Property Partners took over full ownership of the mall six weeks ago. It was a part of a larger merger across the country. The mall's general manager, Steven Sayers, sat down with 10News."Nothing was going wrong with the property at all. It was just, some of it was just timing with expiring leases and unfortunately, some tenants just left," says Sayers.Sayers says these new businesses were already in the works before the merger.
