"Goldbeck would be a refreshing, assured, morally corageous voice on Capitol Hill," the editorial said. Goldbeck, a San Diego native, said she screamed when she heard she got the endorsement. After all, the Union-Tribune editorial board said it almost didn't call for an interview, given her well-known opponents. "To be honest, we were stunned," she said of earning the endorsement. While newspaper circulation is down nationwide, the U-T gave Goldbeck an introduction to an audience she may not have been able to reach on her own. Bill Celis, an associate professor of journalism at USC Annenberg, said people still look to newspapers for reasoned guidance on important issues and candidates. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 44-year-old man suffered a serious cut on his hand early Monday morning when he was attacked by a woman with a knife after parking his car in the City Heights area, police said.It happened shortly before 12:10 a.m. in the 4900 block of University Avenue, east of Euclid Avenue, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 44-year-old man had just parked his car on University Avenue when a woman in her 20s walked up to him and said he owed her some money, Buttle said.The woman then tried to stab him in the neck, but he raised his hand and she cut the webbing of his hand, slashing an artery, the officer said.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injury, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.The suspect was last seen walking southbound on 50th Street from University Avenue. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 12-year-old girl suffered a broken arm and leg when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a San Diego street, authorities said.It was reported at 10:48 p.m. Saturday in the 10600 block of Tierrasanta Boulevard, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The girl was crossing the street in a crosswalk but against a red pedestrian crossing signal, Heims said.``An unknown vehicle was westbound on Tierrasanta Boulevard and struck the pedestrian,'' he said. SAN DIEGO — NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler lied and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.That's according to a lawsuit in which Brees and his wife are seeking million in damages and court costs from Vahid Moaradi, the founder of CJ Charles Jewlers, for fraud, a breach of an oral contract, and violations of business professions code.The lawsuit accuses Moradi of making friends with the Breeses and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent millions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states.
