SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Saturday, San Diego County reported a record 1,478 new coronavirus cases and six additional deaths, bringing the county's totals to 70,709 cases and 966 fatalities.Saturday's new cases yielded a 7% positivity rate out of 21,947 tests reported. The new daily case report marks the third time in a week that the county has reported more than 1,000 new cases. It was also the 11th-straight day the county reported at least 600 new cases.Eleven new community outbreaks were also confirmed on Friday: Three in business settings, three in faith-based settings, two in childcare settings, one in a TK-12 school setting, one in a restaurant/bar setting, and one in a gym setting. A community outbreak is three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the last two weeks.County businesses saw purple tier restrictions go into effect on Saturday, further limiting reopening of the county due to the surge in coronavirus cases seen over the last couple of weeks.California's limited stay-at-home order is also set to begin Saturday night, limiting non-essential businesses between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for one month in counties under the state's purple tier.County public health officials are worried that fatigue is setting in on San Diegans and urged residents to avoid large gatherings this week for Thanksgiving,"The virus is widespread and every element of our community is impacted," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Now more than ever it is vital that San Diegans avoid gatherings and crowds, wear a face covering when they are out in public and stay home if they are sick."Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continues to rise as well, with 440 hospitalized and 127 in intensive care. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six people were arrested after more than a dozen people knocked down barricades outside San Diego Police Department's headquarters.San Diego Police say a group of 20 people arrived at the Broadway headquarters and began knocking down police barricades on Saturday.Police said six people were arrested for assaulting and resisting officers.One officer was taken to a nearby hospital for a knee injury. 427

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several San Diegans are celebrating after catching a more than 300 pound Tuna off the San Diego Coast. The biggest catch, a 321 bluefin tuna, was caught by San Diego local Andy Khwa and Robbie Ortiz from Santa Barbara.The massive catch happened during a three-day trip aboard the Aztec Sportfishing’s Aztec vessel. We were on a 3 Day trip with 24 passengers and caught over 400 bluefin and Yellowfin. Our standouts were 321 pound, 298 pound, and 292 pound Bluefin tuna,” Captain Greg Gawitt said.“We broke our personal record of a 311 pound bluefin in 2017. The smile on our passengers faces was priceless! We are headed back out this morning and can’t wait to do it again."This isn’t the first time fishermen aboard the vessel made a record-breaking catch. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police, Chula Vista Police, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reminded the public Friday about DUI enforcement scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend.16 people died and another 385 were injured in alcohol-related collisions during the holiday in 2016.Deputies said they would be conducting additional DUI patrols from Friday at 7 p.m. through early Tuesday morning.San Diego and Chula Vista Police said officers would also conduct extra patrols. Motorcycle and seat belt enforcement patrols were also planned for the weekend.Law enforcement agencies also warned drivers to be aware that driving under the influence of marijuana is also driving impaired."Don't put your life and those of others in danger by driving while impaired," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "If you are caught driving under the influence this Memorial Day weekend, you will go to jail." 900

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Unified School District is warning parents and staff of a breach involving the personal data of students and staff.District official said in a release the breach dating back to January 2018 may have impacted the personal data of as many as 500,000 students enrolled in the district between the 2008-2009 and 2018-2019 school years.The data is believe to have been accessed by a phishing email effort, according to the district. Those staff members and parents affected have been alerted by SDUSD.Officials said investigators began looking into reports of phishing emails in October 2018. At that time, roughly 50 staff members whose accounts were compromised had security on their accounts reset immediately, according to the district. An investigation determined that unauthorized access was gained to the district’s network services, including their student database. The student database contains personal identifying information, potential health information, scheduling, and grade information.The district says it has since taken steps to prevent unauthorized access from reoccurring and to "eliminate" any continuing threat.SDUSD told 10News the breach wasn't announced until now because officials wanted to verify all their information and not compromise the investigation.“Data security has become an increasing concern for public agencies, corporations and private citizens nationwide,” Toren Allen, executive director of San Diego Unified’s Integrated Technology Department, said. “We are constantly reviewing our practices and systems in an effort to find efficiencies and to identify potential vulnerabilities.”The district recommends that anyone whose data may have been accessed to remain vigilant of their credit cards and account and contact a credit reporting agency to notify them of the breach of information.
