JUNO BEACH, Fla. — Plastic may be impacting sea turtles more than you might think.According to a new international study, plastic was found in the gut of every single sea turtle researchers examined, casting light on just how bad plastic pollution is in our oceans.The problem lies with microplastics, which from plastic that ends up in the ocean through pollution. It breaks down into tiny pieces due to the sun and other environmental factors and then gets eaten by sea turtles and other marine life that mistakes it for food.The new research was published in the journal Global Change Biology. It found plastic in more than 100 sea turtles across the world in the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.Click here to read the studySome of the objects researchers found in the turtles' guts included tire pieces, cigarettes and fishing line."Some of these chemicals are known to be endocrine disruptors, which means they mess up the hormones of the turtles," said Charles Manire, staff veterinarian at Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Florida. "They may affect the immune system, making them vulnerable to infections."In addition to treating sick and injured sea turtles, LMC also conducts research on the sea turtle population, including recent a collaboration with the University of Georgia to study plastic's impact on sea turtles. "We published a study recently where we examined 97 post hatchling and tiny juvenile turtles — we had plastic in all but one of those," Manire said.Click here to read the LMC/UGA studyThey've found the same problems locally, mainly in post-hatchling and juvenile turtles."That generation of turtles may not survive and that could have a major impact on the population if we don’t have turtles growing up to reach adulthood," Manire said. "Plastics have toxins in them. The chemicals that are used to makes the plastics are affecting the turtles in ways that are not very obvious to us."Manire explained that the area where the baby turtles live and grow lies within the seaweed patch offshore and, unfortunately, that's where the problem exists."It’s also where trash accumulates, in the same area," he said. "Especially with the very tiny bits of plastic, these little turtles are eating it because it looks like food to them."The new study by Global Change Biology also estimates between 4.8 million and 12.7 million tons of plastic waste could be entering oceans every year."It’s not affecting just the turtles. It’s affecting a lot of them out there," he said. "But the turtles are the sentinel that tells us something is wrong and the little turtles are definitely telling us something is wrong."If you want to help lessen the impact of plastic on marine life, Manire said, you can start by picking up any trash you see on the beach."We're trying to educate the public, trying to educate the world, telling the story so that people realize just how bad the situation is," he said. Kevin Spacey made the set of Netflix's "House of Cards" into a "toxic" work environment through a pattern of sexual harassment, eight people who currently work on the show or worked on it in the past tell CNN. One former employee told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him.The former production assistant, whose account has never previously been disclosed, told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him during one of the show's early seasons. All eight people, each of whom spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional repercussions for speaking out, described Spacey's behavior as "predatory," saying it included nonconsensual touching and crude comments and targeted production staffers who were typically young and male.The new accusations follow an explosive article published less than a week ago by BuzzFeed News, in which actor Anthony Rapp said Spacey made sexual advances toward him in 1985, when Rapp was 14 years old.On Monday, Spacey released an apology in response to Rapp's account. "I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago," Spacey said. "But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years." "It was a toxic environment for young men who had to interact with him at all in the crew, cast, background actors."The other people who worked on "House of Cards" with whom CNN spoke all supported the idea that the set could be toxic for young men because of Spacey.A crew member who worked on the show for all six seasons said that Spacey routinely harassed and touched him."He would put his hands on me in weird ways," the crew member said. "He would come in and massage my shoulders from behind or put his hands around me or touch my stomach sometimes in weird ways that in normal everyday conversation would not be appropriate."This crew member said he did not "feel comfortable" telling Spacey to stop. "That's the worst part about this whole thing. JBS Tolleson, Inc. is recalling more than 5.1 million pounds of raw beef products that may be tainted with salmonella, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.The recalled beef was produced and packaged between July 26 and September 7 according to FSIS. The products have been distributed nationwide and include the brands Kroger, Cedar River Farms, Grass Run Farms and JBS generic among others.This is an expansion of a recall that was first issued in October for the same reason.The total amount of "non-intact raw beef products" that have been recalled now exceeds more than 12 million pounds.The recalled beef is linked to an outbreak of salmonella that, as of November 15, has caused 246 people to become sick in 25 states, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No deaths have been reported but 56 people have been hospitalized."FSIS is continuing to investigate illnesses associated with this widespread outbreak, and additional product from other companies may also be recalled," the recall notice said.Consumers should discard or return any recalled beef. FSIS said its concerned that consumers may unknowingly have recalled beef in their freezer. In addition, "only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160°F. Other cuts of beef should be cooked to a temperature of 145°F and allowed to rest for at least 3 minutes," USDA said.Symptoms of salmonella usually begin within 12 to 72 hours of consuming contaminated food. (KGTV) - A Monterey Cypress known as the “Dr. Seuss Tree” or “The Lorax Tree” toppled over early Thursday morning in La Jolla.The unique shaped tree has been theorized to be the inspiration for the colorful trees in “The Lorax,” written in 1971 by Theodor Geisel, known best as "Dr. Seuss."Geisel lived in La Jolla from 1948 until he died in 1991. The tree is located in Ellen Browning Scripps Park near La Jolla Cove.The tree had become a tourist destination for Seuss fans around the world, with its long, drooping branches and leaves.As of Thursday night the tree was still lying on the ground.
