BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Russian Prime Minister Putin said here on Tuesday that Russia and China are working on a huge oil and gas cooperation project.     In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Putin said the two countries have signed a 20-year oil supply agreement and laid more than 2,000 kilometers of crude oil pipelines for this. It was the name given to the illegal practice of getting items across the border without official customs approval.     The illegal practice would make the government unable to supervise domestic industries and lead to bankruptcies and unemployment, which might cause more troubles to the society against the backdrop of the financial crisis, he said.     Putin called upon the two countries to establish a set of unified rules, which would be obeyed by both sides, so as to achieve a just, sound and civilized mechanism of cooperation.

BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued a collection of slogans Friday for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     The collection of 50 catchphrases touches upon issues of political system, economic development, environmental protection, military modernization and national unification.     On the top of the slogan list are "Warmly celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China!" and "Hail the great success of our country's reform and opening-up and socialist modernization!"     Also on the list are "Put people first, realize, safeguard and develop the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people!" and "build a socialist harmonious society and promote social equity and justice!"     One of the slogans also advocates the inheritance of fine military tradition that the armed forces should obey the command of the Party and serve the people.     Slogans also include "Adhere to the one China policy and promote the country's great cause of peaceful reunification!" and "Adhere to the independent foreign policy of peace and unswervingly pursue the road of peaceful development!" and "Long live the great unity of all nationalities of China!"     China has planned massive celebrations for the 60th founding anniversary of the people's republic on Oct. 1. The celebrations in downtown Beijing will feature a mass pageant and a military review.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with Speaker Luka Bebic of the Croatian Assembly, vowing to facilitate closer parliamentary exchanges and cooperation between both countries.     "China highly values its relations with Crotia, and regards the country as a reliable good friend and partner in southeast Europe," Wu told Bebic in Beijing. He vowed joint efforts with the country to cement bilateral exchanges in all fields to build better future for both sides. Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), hailed the progress of bilateral ties since the forging of diplomatic ties 17 years ago, citing frequent high-level visits, remarkable trade cooperation and increasing exchanges in cultural, technological and educational areas. BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- China said on Sunday the U.S. decision to impose special protectionist tariffs on tire imports from China is grave trade protectionism and goes against its commitments made at the Group of 20 summit.     "We hereby express our strong discontentment and firm opposition to the U.S. decision, which was made regardless of China's solemn stance," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement.     U.S. President Barack Obama decided to impose a tariff on tires imported from China on Sept. 11, which will begin with a 35-percent duty the first year and decrease to 30 percent the second year and 25 percent the third year on passenger vehicle and light-truck tires from China.     "The United States, by making the decision, failed to honor its commitments made at the G20 financial summit and abused trade remedy measures, which is grave trade protectionism and will undermine the China-U.S. economic and trade ties as well as the early recovery of world economy," Jiang said.     China has lodged solemn representation to the U.S. side and reserves its right to take further actions, Jiang said.
