SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some "national holidays" make lunch and dinner that much easier. Take Wednesday, when America celebrates National Cheeseburger Day.Across the country, hungry Americans can grab special burger deals in honor of the delicious day.And what's a holiday without a little tradition. The burger is said to have been invented in New Haven, Conn., in 1900 when Louis Lassen took a steak trimmings, grilled them into a patty, and served it between two slices of bread. But, of course, there are several rival claims to that. The cheeseburger has its own origin claim out of Denver, Colo., where it's believed Louis Ballast created the cheeseburger at his restaurant in 1935.In any case, the dish is enjoyed by many throughout the world who are much more interested in its taste than true origin. And by now, we're sure you're more interested in today's deals. Go forth and enjoy!Applebee's: Get a Classic Bacon Cheeseburger for .99, plus the chain's endless fries with the burger on Wednesday.Burger King: Burger King's deal lasts through Sunday, giving diners the chance to get a cheeseburger for 59 cents via the chain's mobile app.Dairy Queen: Grab the two for Super Snack deal, which comes with mix and match options of a cheeseburger, a small sundae, fries, pretzel sticks or chicken tenders.Island's: Take off any burger at Island's on Wednesday by becoming a Rewards Member through the Island's mobile app.Jack in the Box: Order up a free burger with any purchase through the Jack in the Box mobile app at participating locations Wednesday.McDonald's: Get two cheeseburgers for via the McDonald's mobile app from Sept. 18 - 24 at participating locations.Red Robin: Red Robin is offering a Gourmet Cheeseburger and Bottomless Steak Fries for with any beverage purchase at participating restaurants on Wednesday.Smashburger: Get buy-one-get-one free double classic Smashburgers on Wednesday.Wendy's: It's not a special deal for National Cheeseburger Day, but a Biggie Bag with a bacon double stack, nuggest, fries, and a drink is the perfect fix for Wednesday. 2097

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University says 400 students have confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus. The university said Tuesday that, since August 24, 396 students have tested positive for COVID-19. Four other students have probable cases of the virus. The update comes one day after the school extended its stay-at-home order for on-campus residents through September 14. The order was originally set to expire Tuesday.RELATED:San Diego State coronavirus cases continue to rise during 'stay-at-home' orderSDSU reports 120 more COVID-19 cases since fall startSan Diego State moves all classes online for 4 weeks as student cases riseSDSU students told to stay at home over Labor Day Weekend as coronavirus cases increase"Some students who have tested positive have fully recovered and are no longer symptomatic. Also, SDSU has no reports of any hospitalizations as a result of any positive cases. However, the COVID-19 risk remains within our community, and researchers are still trying to understand potential rebound illness for those who have tested positive but have since recovered," the school previously said.Students are advised to call 2-1-1 or their medical providers and stay home if they feel ill. They can also contact Student Health Services at 619-594-4325 (Monday through Friday) or the Nurse Call Line at 858-225-3105 (after hours and during weekends and holidays). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego student Emily Benkes says her mother has lived in their Carmel Mountain home for 32 years, never once feeling unsafe in the neighborhood.Tuesday, Benkes came home to a ransacked house. “We had our laptops out, I had some money on my desk, Xbox was gone, my Apple TV,” said Benkes. Benkes believes the person hopped their backyard fence, coming in from a nearby trail. Food was missing from the fridge, including a package of salami which they later found on the trail. The suspect entered the home by throwing a rock through the back window and climbing in. “I felt really violated, I couldn’t even go in my room just because I kept thinking that there was somebody in here going through my stuff,” Benkes. She posted what happened on Nextdoor, and now neighbors are trying to help; one neighbor believes their surveillance video captured someone hopping the fence. “I hope we catch this person and nobody else has this happen to them,” said Benkes. The family estimates several thousand dollars worth of goods were stolen; they have filed a report with the San Diego Police Department. 1122

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified is fast-tracking several security-related upgrades on several schools. The first upgrade started this week at Miramar Ranch Elementary school, where a new, taller perimeter fence was installed. The district made the decision last week to prioritize roughly -million worth of projects.  They will be paid for by a voter-approved bond measure. The plans were already on the district's to-do list, but they now moved up the schedule.A district spokeswoman says it is in response to the climate plaguing classrooms across America, where school safety and security are front and center.  Campus security has been under heavy scrutiny following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.“Of course we are worried about school security in the wake of all the shootings,” Diane Hunter, a Miramar Ranch Elementary parent said,  “It’s a naughty problem because we want to balance logistics and ease of access for parents and volunteers, but we also want our kids to be safe.  So I’m glad that the school is taking a look at it and making improvements."The list of projects includes adding and upgrading things like fences, door locks and gate, visitor access control, site radios and security cameras.A timeline for the projects in the individual schools was not readily available.  1380
