(KGTV) -- A man in his mid-30s was killed Sunday afternoon after the SUV he was driving struck a tree in El Cajon.El Cajon police say the driver of a 1998 Ford Explorer drifted onto a center divider then slammed into the tree on N Second Street near Greenfield Drive at 1:49 p.m.The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending family notification.Surveillance video from a nearby store shows the impact of the crash and the aftermath. Several good Samaritans ran over to try to help the driver until police arrived.N Second Street between Persimmon Avenue and Greenfield Drive was closed off for approximately four hours as police investigated.Police said it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. EL CAJON (CNS) - One person was shot and another stabbed at a house party in El Cajon late Saturday night, police say. Several 911 calls came in to police at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday reporting a fight at a party on Andover Road just east of South Second Street, El Cajon Police Lt. Eric Taylor said.Callers reported that multiple people had been kicked out and drove off in a silver car before turning around and firing shots at partygoers who were still outside, Taylor said. One person, a woman in her 20s, was shot in the abdomen.She was taken to a local hospital and was undergoing surgery in stable condition, Taylor said.No one else was hit by gunfire, but when police arrived at the home, they found a man in his 50s had also been stabbed in the buttocks, according to Taylor.The suspects had already left by the time officers arrived, and no one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon. 902

EDINBURG, Texas - A bizarre incident during a high school playoff game in Texas on Thursday left a referee with injuries after being attacked by a player he had just ejected.Edinburg High School defensive end Emmanuel Duron was penalized for shoving another player to the ground and attempting to tackle the opposing team's quarterback after a play was over The Monitor reports.Referee Fred Garcia ejected Duron from the game for the two unsportsmanlike penalties.After Garcia announced the ejection, Duron charged back onto the field and slammed into the referee, causing him to fly back into the artificial turf.Duron's teammates and coaches held the player back while crews attended to Garcia. Four off-duty police officers escorted Duron out of the stadium and away from the premises.Garcia was able to walk off the field on his own and was evaluated in an ambulance outside the stadium. He was reported to have suffered a concussion and a shoulder injury.After the delay, the game resumed and Edinburg ended up defeating Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 35-21 to advance to the playoffs, The Associated Press reported. But on Friday, the team was removed from the playoffs by the school district, the district announced in a statement."The district has decided to remove the Edinburg High School football team from the playoffs after an unexpected incident involving a student that occurred during a football game on December 3, 2020," the district said. "We extend a sincere apology to the referee and his family. On behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees and administration, we apologize to the athletes, staff, and our school community. We will take the appropriate disciplinary action once we understand the facts and circumstances underlining this incident.
