Hu met with the new foreign envoys in a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao appointed a new representative and ambassador to the World Trade Organization(WTO) and a new ambassador to Myanmar, according to a statement from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Thursday.Yi Xiaozhun, 59, previously a vice commerce minister, was appointed representative and ambassador to the global trade body, replacing 64-year-old Sun Zhenyu, who was the country's first WTO representative since China's accession to the WTO in Dec. 2001.Li Junhua was appointed ambassador to Myanmar, succeeding the 54-year-old Ye Dabo.Prior to Thursday's appointment, Li was deputy director of the International Organizations and Conferences Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.The appointment was in line with the decision made by the Standing Committee of the NPC, China's top legislature.

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A revised version of China's Regulation on Work-Related Injury Insurance will take effect Saturday, raising compensation standards while expanding the coverage to more organizations.The previous regulation stipulated that the compensation to families of workers who die on the posts is no more than five times the average annual salary in the previous year. The sum varies depending on the regions where the workers are working.Under the current system, the national average compensation is about 100,000 yuan, but the lowest regional average compensation is about 40,000 yuan.The new regulation raises the compensation to 20 times the national annual disposable income for urbanites per capita in the previous year, which means about 340,000 yuan according to 2009 statistics.In addition, the revised regulation covers the country's public institutions, social groups, non-profit grass-root organizations, foundations, law firms and accounting firms.Previously, the rules only include enterprises and small businesses and their employees in the system.
WUHAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Sunday that Sino-Indian relations have global influence as well as strategic significance.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Indian counterpart, S.M. Krishna arrived in Wuhan Saturday afternoon for trilateral talks slated for Nov. 14 to 15.On the sidelines of the two-day meeting, Yang will also have separate bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart.During the two-day meeting, the three foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss international and regional issues of common interest aimed at promoting practical cooperation among the three countries.The last round of meetings of this kind was held in India in October 2009.
