PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The tourism industry is looking to bounce back after a tough spring and summer.One resort on the Treasure Coast is trying to appeal to people who want to mix business and pleasure with school.Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, located along the St. Lucie River, is one of the few resorts in the country that offers all-inclusive packages.Now, they are starting new programs that have places for parents and children to get their work and school assignments completed.With many families now working and learning from home, Club Med wants area residents to consider a getaway without abandoning your responsibilities. WPTV Sophia Lykke, the general manager at ClubMed Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, says the resort is working to attract families who can continue to work and attend online school. "We're open to anyone in the United States who want to make their way down to Florida," said general manager Sophia Lykke.She said they have set up two conference rooms that include one for kids to do their schoolwork.“We would have one of our mini club staff dedicated to chaperoning them. [They do ] not act as teachers but make sure they’re logged on [their computer] on time and doing their work," Lykke said. "We have a separate room for adults, which is basically like a working lounge where you can have coffee, snacks. If you need IT support, we have someone who can do it. (KGTV) -- A local business and organization are coming together to take steps toward better protecting Alzheimer patients by providing free gun locks.Alzheimer’s San Diego and Poway Weapons and Gear have started the first of its kind program regarding what to do when it’s time to lock up your guns.Eugenia Welch is the President of Alzheimer’s San Diego and spoke to 10News. "As we were working further through this program, there was an incident locally, a gentleman shot his daughter because he didn’t recognize her as a daughter he thought she was an intruder. Luckily she’s fine but that could have been a really bad situation," she said. When families are helping their loved ones who have been diagnosed, they often forget about the guns in the home and how dangerous they could be. "If someone is retired military or retired police officer, they’ve probably had guns in their home their whole life and didn’t even think about it” Welch says.This program gives free gun locks to families. It started over the summer and so far they have given out 100 locks.Poway Weapons and Gear has donated 500 locks and tells 10News they will continue to donate as need grows.The program hits close to home for the business because the owner’s grandmother was also diagnosed with the disease.With the locks on guns they become completely unusable, preventing the cylinder from going back in with the rounds to allow the gun to be fired.While the ideal situation is for the guns to be completely removed, the organization says this is the next best option. 1610

President Donald Trump has told advisers that Heather Nauert, the State Department spokeswoman, is his leading choice to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and he could offer the post as soon as this week, two sources familiar with his pick told CNN.If named, Nauert, who met with Trump Monday, would leave her role at the State Department to take over for Nikki Haley, who surprised White House officials last month when she announced her decision to step down at the end of the year.People close to the President cautioned that his pick is not final until it is formally announced. The White House declined to comment on the matter. Nauert has been keeping a low profile this week after meeting with Trump on Monday. President Donald Trump gave his final Thanksgiving address to troops before President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January. After addressing service members, Trump answered questions for the first time since his November 3 election defeat, saying that it would be a “mistake” if the Electoral College votes for Biden next month.“This election was a fraud,” Trump claimed.Two weeks ago, a joint statement released by federal and state officials described the presidential election as the “most secure in American history.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was established two years ago as a branch of Homeland Security during the Trump administration.In bold, the authors of the statement wrote, “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.” This statement matches those from secretaries of state and boards of election throughout the US.In response to the letter, Trump fired US election security head Chris Krebs.Biden is slated to send 306 electors on his behalf to state capitols on December 4, 36 more than the 270 needed to become president on January 20. It has been a long-standing tradition that the incoming and outgoing president meet at the White House and travel to the Capitol together before the inauguration.Trump said, “certainly I will, you know that,” when asked if he would leave the White House on January 20.The president criticized Biden for beginning to fill out his prospective cabinet before taking office. A business owner says his Poway office has been repeatedly burglarized by a thief who steals plants, among other things.The man snatched succulents and pilfered a large plumeria in his latest visit to the Poway business on Adrian Street near Midland Road on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to owner Tom Belway.The grab-and-go gardener also disabled a surveillance camera and removed sensor lights, he said."This is the sixth or seventh time they have swept the property for any 'loose' items," Belway wrote on social media. "Previously they stole propane tanks, rocking chairs, construction materials and plants. One visit they had all of our outdoor furniture staged at the fence but they must have been interrupted."Down the street at the Park Church on Midland Road, pastor Andrew Henneforth said his church has been hit twice over the past two weeks.He said in the first incident, someone broke into a camper trailer and stole landscaping equipment and propane tanks.The second time, the thief hopped a fence and took a bicycle. There was a skateboard and drugs left behind, the pastor said."In this situation, am I a victim? Sure," Henneforth said. "But in some ways he's kind of a victim as well -- to addiction, to substance abuse."The church added security cameras after the second incident, he said.It's not clear if the two cases are related.
