SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A grandmother and several children were forced to run out of a San Carlos home that burst into flames Saturday night. The fire broke out on Park Ridge Boulevard in San Carlos around 10 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to a nearby canyon. Neighbors say they heard what sounded like explosions before they ran out and saw the home on fire. A woman was home watching her grandchildren when the house caught fire. All those inside were able to make it out safely. San Diego Fire-Rescue says it was initially challenging to battle the flames because the closest hydrants are located hundreds of feet away. “I went across the street and pounded on the door and the window to make sure that nobody was in there. Don’t think they were. There was just a lot of explosions and tires I guess blowing up. It was just In full flames when it happened,” one neighbor said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with wounds he suffered in a stabbing in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and a 19-year-old suspect was in custody.The victim was walking in the area of Westview Parkway and Galvin Avenue about 9:10 p.m. Friday when he got into an argument with the suspect, who stabbed him three times, then ran away through the parking lot of a business, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered cuts to his stomach and finger. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Heims said.Police searched the area and located the suspect, identified as Dejon Heard, and took him into custody, Heims said.Anyone who witnessed the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police Northeastern Division detectives at 858-538-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477. 929

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 24-year-old La Jolla man who was wearing a Jesus costume when he sucker-punched a San Diego police officer at a Gaslamp District Halloween street festival was sentenced Thursday to 270 days in jail, which will be served on weekends.Eric Van Vleet, who was arrested in Idaho's Cassia County four days after the Nov. 1, 2019, attack, pleaded guilty last year to a felony count of battery on a peace officer resulting in injury.San Diego County Superior Court Judge Melinda J. Lasater ordered that Van Vleet serve his time in county jail on 35 consecutive three-day weekends, totaling 105 days, with the rest of the time earned through custody credits.
