SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb says it has cracked down on 17 listings in San Diego County that have received complaints or have violated policies surrounding parties.The rental booking company says the listings have either been suspended or removed from its platform following Airbnb's ban on parities and events at listings until further notice.The listings disciplined were located in the San Diego, Escondido, La Mesa, Clairemont Mesa, Linda Vista, Mission Bay Park, North Park, Pacific Beach, Peninsula, Southeastern San Diego, and Uptown.RELATED: San Diego shuts down Bankers Hill Airbnb ‘party house’ over COVID-19 concerns, other violations"In this current environment, it’s more important than ever before to prevent large parties and gatherings, and we support the efforts of local officials to put a stop to this irresponsible behavior," said John Choi, Airbnb’s Director of Public Policy in San Diego. Earlier this month, a guest held an unauthorized party at a home in Sacramento County, ending with three people being shot and injured at the party. The house-sharing company has also made it more challenging for some guests under the age of 25 from booking rentals in their region unless they have a number of positive reviews. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Almost 2,000 people gathered in San Diego to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday at the 38th annual Human Dignity Award breakfast in Mission Valley. “He fought and gave his life not just for African Americans but for everyone,” said Dee Sanford, this year’s honoree. Sanford stared a telecommunications business in 1994, was an adjunct professor at colleges, and created public access television and radio stations. “You don't do it for honor but when someone remembers and acknowledges your work, it’s really a humbling experience,” she said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego woman who participated in a local coronavirus vaccine trial is sharing her experience.Although it’s a blind study, she says she’s convinced she received the vaccine and she hopes her story will encourage others to get vaccinated.During the summer, American biotech company Moderna began some of its phase three trials in San Diego. Leslie Sullivan was one of those patients.“I put my name in the hat and by the end of July I was in getting my first dose,” she told 10News.The vaccine is given in two doses. “It felt like a flu shot and not much in the way of reaction after the first one,” Sullivan added.She says the second time she received the shot, she felt something. “By midnight I spiked a fever, I had chills, it was exactly like how the flu feels.”A day later, Sullivan was back to normal.Sullivan doesn’t know whether or not she got the vaccine, but says based on the symptoms she experienced, she’s almost positive she didn’t get a placebo. She says some people she’s spoken with mistakenly believe that if she got the actual vaccine, she had COVID-19.“The vaccine does not give you COVID this particular one has no live virus in it at all.”Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines use MRNA technology, which relies on messenger RNA to essentially trick the body into making antibodies to fight the virus.At some point Sullivan will find out if she did indeed get the vaccine When a vaccine is made available to the public, those who received a placebo will be notified so they can get vaccinated. 1544

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman visiting San Diego to spend time with her daughter is dead after being struck by a car near San Diego State University Friday evening. San Diego Police Department says the woman was hit at the 4800 block of College Avenue just south of Montezuma Road in the College Area at approximately 7:45 p.m. The 48-year-old female victim was transported to an area hospital where she died. Police say the victim was not using a crosswalk when she was struck in the number two northbound lane of College Ave.The driver fled the scene according to SDPD but returned about an hour later.The driver is a 40-year-old female and detectives say they are still determining if this will continue to be classified as a hit-and-run.Police expect the intersection to be shut down for several hours. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A suspected DUI driver overturned his car while speeding in the East Village, sending a passenger flying from the vehicle and facing life-threatening injuries.A 23-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius "at a high rate of speed" eastbound on Market St. just before midnight Friday, according to San Diego Police. As he turned left to continue northbound on 7th Ave., he struck the curb and his Toyota overturned.A 24-year-old man sitting in the passenger's seat was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, including a crushed pelvis and internal bleeding. They were in critical condition Saturday morning, according to police.The driver suffered a laceration to his forehead, police said.Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. 795
