KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 10-year-old German Shepherd named Irgo should be settling into his new home in Kansas but instead he's overseas. Irgo's odyssey began Monday when his owner, Kara Swindle, dropped him off at the airport in Portland, Oregon ahead of the family's move to Wichita. Swindle said Irgo flew United Airlines to Denver where he spent the night. The next day Irgo was scheduled to land at Kansas City International Airport to be reunited with his family at United Airlines' Cargo facility."They took us back to the warehouse, they showed me the kennel, and the minute I said 'Irgo', out pops this Great Dane," Swindle said. "So I instantly burst into tears just wondering where my dog was. I was confused, upset and just in utter shock that this was not my dog."According to Swindle, it took several hours for United to figure out where Irgo was. The Great Dane provided a clue."His paperwork on his food said Japan so at that point they realized that's probably what happened and it got switched up somehow," Swindle said.Swindle received a call from United Airlines early Wednesday morning, that Irgo was, in fact, in Japan.Swindle said United Airlines told her that they're investigating how this happened, but they have offered her a theory."One thing they're thinking right now is that somehow at the pet resort in the Denver airport, when they got taken out of their kennels, to go potty — or whatever they do — they somehow got switched," Swindle said.United Airlines is working with Irgo's family to get him back home. Swindle said Wednesday evening, United has told her they plan to send Irgo on a flight that will land Thursday night in Wichita."They've been sending us updates like crazy. We've been so adamant that they send us pictures every hour letting us know how he is because I don't want anything happening. (KGTV) -- A Rock Star of Science came to San Diego to speak to medical students at UC San Diego about the latest research in Alzheimer’s.While here, Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and Vice-Chair of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital met up with 10News Anchor Kimberly Hunt.Dr. Tanzi discussed his latest research, drugs in trial that may be able to wipe out the Alzheimer's decades before symptoms, and testing to target the inflammation associated with memory loss.Tanzi also spoke to Hunt about his other passion. His love of music.This passion has taken him down an unlikely path. One that has him performing live with famed guitarist Joe Perry, and playing keyboards on the last Aerosmith album.“If you can find creative success in music, that can be instant, then that will feed longer term successes in science that might take 10 years. It allows you to stick with it," Tanzi said. "Scientific success takes years, in music you can have success in a solo in a few minutes. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It's the happiest a Kansas City widower said he has been in three years."That's when our whole journey started," said Jim Purcell, who lost his 29-year-old wife Christy last year.Christy was diagnosed with brain cancer two months after their son, Jameson, was born.Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City reported earlier in April that Purcell's wedding rings had been stolen."It’s been a brutal journey. Every day was hard. When that ring was stolen, it was just another stab to the heart," said Purcell.Purcell shared the story on social media, explaining it was a devastating loss for him and his son."This was the one legacy item I wanted to pass on to him," said Purcell.Purcell's wallet was also stolen. The thieves used his credit card at the Walmart at 133rd and State Line; its surveillance video captured the alleged thieves’ faces.KCPD shared those images and together enough tips were gathered that detectives found the rings at a jewelry store in Raymore."They were honestly shocked," said Purcell.KCPD property crimes said it’s best to carefully photograph and document your items as extra insurance. Things like that can help them when trying to locate items.  "The police never gave up," explained Purcell, who said he was incredibly grateful people stepped forward with information. "A few of them actually put their own personal risk on the line."The group Stolen KC promotes people speaking up about theft daily."We’ve had people identified within five or 10 minutes," explained Todd Howerton, who is on the Facebook group's administration team.Members post photos of missing items with the idea that someone knows something. The group would like to grow to a strength of 200,000.  "The massive amount of people can facilitate finding things," said Howerton, who said they can take tips anonymously.That way, the things that are irreplaceable can be found."To have that, it gave me a lot of faith, a lot of hope, and a lot of thankfulness to people in the community who stepped up," said Purcell.Detectives told KSHB they are looking for three suspects in connection with the theft. JOHNSON COUNTY, Kansas — Roughly 5,000 mail-in ballots will be tabulated in Johnson County Friday.The results from the mail-in ballots will be released beginning at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.The ballots could widen the margin between the two leading Republican primary candidates for governor: Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Gov. Jeff Colyer.When polls closed on Tuesday, slow reporting in Johnson County delayed results. Once the numbers came out the following morning, Kobach led by fewer than 200 votes.Since then, the numbers have been contested, but a 41 Action News county-by-county tally shows Kobach still in the lead.The Secretary of State’s office said it should have all the advance ballots that were mailed in, and any other unofficial election results that were not previously reported on election day.Provisional ballots will be reviewed and counted next week by individual counties. They must certify the results between Monday, Aug. 13 and Monday, Aug. 20.Colyer has asked Kobach to recuse himself from giving local election officials advice. 1081
