SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three Scripps Health locations will temporarily close this week to give the system more staffing flexibility amid the coronavirus pandemic.Scripps Clinic Coronado, Scripps Clinic Santee, and Scripps Clinic Bariatric and General Surgery in Hillcrest will close in order to give the medical system "the ability to move people and resources to where they are needed more.”Scripps will redirect patients from those sites to other locations.RELATED: Sharp temporarily closing multiple locations amid coronavirus outbreak“The coronavirus pandemic has triggered many changes in our lives and forced organizations of all types to alter the way they provide services to their customers,” said Chris Van Gorder, Scripps president and CEO. “These latest changes at Scripps give us more flexibility in how we staff all of our clinics and hospitals as this health pandemic continues to unfold, and they give us the ability to move people and resources to where they are needed more.”The health system said patients can also use Scripps' telemedicine video service instead of scheduling an in-person consultation.RELATED: Nurse urges people to turn over N95 masks to San Diego hospitalsOther Scripps outpatient sites were also being reviewed for possible changes in operation. Scripps patients should contact their hospital location to see whether or not appointments are impacted. The changes come as Scripps move to expand site accepting medical supply donations to address reported supply shortages. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The U.S. Coast Guard reports sightings of a whale in San Diego Bay.Several pictures were posted online by San Diego Floating Lab, which is located off Shelter Island in America's Cup Harbor.Captain Rick Scott of Ocean Odyssey took the photos. An employee at the business said it's common for juvenile whales to enter the bay, but they tend to find their way back out.The Coast Guard has not determined what type of whale is in the bay.Watch a Facebook live of the whale in the player below: Have you seen the whale? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Valley Fire has scorched more than 17,000 acres forcing families and animals out of their homes, but during all the chaos, the Children's Nature Retreat in Alpine was able to find safe homes for most of its 143 animals. It's been a tough last few days says Executive Director Agnes Barrelet, who spotted the fire and a hillside, the minute it sparked."You can't panic. You have to worry, but you have to remain cool. If you panic, your animals are going to sense it, and it's going to be worse," said Barrelet.In all, the nature retreat had to evacuate 118 of their animal which wasn't easy."We evacuated the most fragile animals first, and then the one's that may panic. I evacuated all the horses, then the mini horses mini donkeys," Barrelet says.A majority of the animals were taken by Good Samaritan's and given places to stay at various locations in East County."They were calling us and we were determining what space they had, and how much space. We also needed to know the height of the fences," Barrelet said. "That gave us an indication of who would take which animals where."It's been a tough year for the Children's Nature Retreat, as they were forced to close earlier this year due to COVID-19, and now the fires have temporarily shut them down."The fire of course forced us to close down again. If we are closed down, we have no revenues at all," Barrelet added. 1409

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Tunnel Task Force have released images showing what they say is a sophisticated drug smuggling tunnel that leads from Tijuana to a warehouse in Otay Mesa.Federal agents made the discovery Thursday, March 19, as part of an investigation into a transnational crime ring suspected of smuggling narcotics into the U.S. via a cross-border tunnel. The U.S. exit point was discovered subsequent to the execution of the warrant, the task force said.Agencies from the U.S. and Mexico located a 2,000-foot underground from a warehouse in Tijuana, Mexico to a warehouse in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego, according to the task force. The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway, according to authorities. Authorities estimate the tunnel to have been in existence for several months.The task force described it as having advanced construction including reinforced walls, ventilation, lighting, and an underground rail system. Authorities seized an estimated .6 million in mixed drugs including 1,300 pounds of cocaine, 86 pounds of methamphetamine, 17 pounds of heroin, 3,000 pounds of marijuana and more than two pounds of fentanyl.According to the task force, the seizure is the first time "in San Diego’s history where five different types of drugs were found inside a tunnel."The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway.“I’m proud of the excellent work performed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, as well as U.S. Border Patrol and Drug Enforcement Administration agents as integrated partners of the San Diego Tunnel Task Force. Their tenacity made the difference in shutting down this tunnel,” said Cardell T. Morant, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI San Diego. “Several months ago, agents on the San Diego Tunnel Task Force announced the seizure of the longest cross-border tunnel and today we announce the discovery of another sophisticated tunnel with large quantities of drugs seized from within,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge John W.
