Although four people were killed, and 10 others were wounded by a gunman targeting a Northern California elementary school on Tuesday, authorities said the incident could have been more tragic.According to Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston, when school administrators heard gunshots ringing out nearly 1/4 mile from the school, the school immediately went into lockdown mode without the prompting of police. Amazing, up-close video shows a tour guide's GoPro camera becoming engulfed in a Hawaii lava flow.Erik Storm said it happened by accident while he was guiding a tour in Kalapana in August 2016.Storm said he used a rock hammer to extract the camera after the lava began to cool and harden.He thought it had surely been destroyed, but was amazed to see the blue Wi-Fi light still blinking. American Airlines has sent out letters to roughly 25,000 employees about possible layoffs and furloughs. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letters, as they are called, are required by law 60 days before layoffs or furloughs are anticipated.The letters from the airline specifically say they are taking this step because of “overages we may start to see Oct. 1 when our Payroll Support Program funding expires.”They reference customer revenues being down 80 percent in June 2020 compared to June 2019. A white van drove onto a busy Toronto sidewalk, and struck dozens of pedestrians, killing 10 and wounding 15, Toronto Police officials said on Monday. Later in the day, police said that Alek Minassian allegedly targeted the crowd of pedestrians. Police were called to the area of Yonge Street at Finch Avenue around 1:30 p.m. local time after the van fled from the scene. Police have since shutdown the area, and blocked off several streets. Authorities later caught up to the van and its driver.Canadian news agency the CBC reported that the van's driver is in custody.Video from the incident showed several ambulances taking away victims on stretchers from the scene of the incident. Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, said that targeted pedestrians for up to one mile. The CBC has reported that part of Toronto's subway service has been shutdown. The area is in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, which is several miles north of Downtown.
