SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Condo and townhome sales increased more than 7 percent from April to May in San Diego County, while single-family home sales held steady, the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors reported Monday. Attached property sales increased 7.3 percent from 983 in April to 1,055 in May. Month-over-month sales of single-family homes increased by just 0.7 percent from 2,023 in April to 2,037 in May. Property sales, which plunged during the winter, have had steady increases since January. The price of single-family homes rose 1.2 percent from 2,200 in April to 0,000 in May. Attached property prices grew 3.3 percent from 0,000 in April to 4,000 in May. ``Sellers still have the upper hand in this market,'' said SDAR President Kevin Burke. ``However, buyers who take the time to research neighborhoods should find more homes for sale than they would have a year ago.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is warning drivers about a series of SR-163 closures throughout the week. According to the agency, all lanes of north and southbound SR-163 between I-8 and Genesee Avenue for three to six nights. The highway will be closed so crews can remove falsework from the bridge on the SR-163 Friars Road overcrossing. The southbound closures will begin at 11 p.m. with the northbound closures starting at 11:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. The list below shows which lanes will be closed on certain nights: Sunday: All southbound lanes, the northbound far right collector lane and the right main lane (slow lane).Monday: No full freeway closure. Only the northbound and southbound right main lanes.Tuesday: All southbound lanes, and the northbound left lane (fast lane).Wednesday: All northbound lanes, and the southbound left lane.Thursday: No full freeway closures. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border Patrol is gearing up for what they anticipate to be a busy summer of illegal border crossings. The agency showcased its tools and tactics Tuesday at a site near the former border wall prototypes. Five migrants suspected of crossing illegally were rescued by Border Patrol several miles east of where the demonstration was occurring in the Otay mountains. Border Patrol says a member of the group called 911 early Tuesday morning after they ran out of food and water. One of the people from the group had to be airlifted because of a leg injury. Customs and Border Protection says they detain 170 people a day trying to illegal cross the border in San Diego sector. CBP adds with more the secondary wall project being completed, people are crossing in more remote areas and putting themselves in more dangerous situations. “A lot of the people we’re encountering are surrendering themselves agents,” said Justin Castrejon with Border Patrol. Agents are certified through the state of California to respond in medical capacity similar to EMT’s. 1076

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California Highway Patrol officers arrested a driver who knocked over a light pole on Interstate 5, causing it to fall into the path of oncoming traffic Friday night.It happened on the northbound lanes of I-5 just before the State Route 163 connector.The driver of a white Chevy Impala went off the road crashed into two light poles, knocking one of the light poles onto the right lane and into oncoming traffic.CHP says at least seven cars smashed into the downed light pole, damaging the vehicles. However, there were no injuries.The driver of the Impala told CHP he merely fell asleep behind the wheel, but after a sobriety test, he was arrested.“He was arrested for DUI,” said Steve Jio, with the CHP. “Possibly drugs, and we’re taking him to our station to be evaluated."Three lanes of I-5 were closed off for about an hour as crews removed the damaged vehicles and the downed light pole.Crews plan to replace the light pole Saturday morning. 974

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - California health officials announced Friday the steepest climb in positive coronavirus cases in history."When I'm worried I'll tell you so you can worry with me and we're there," California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly said. He's worried hospitals could be overwhelmed if we don't stop the rapid spread of the virus."This rapid rate of rise could be even higher if we don't act soon," Dr. Erica Pan, state epidemiologist and deputy director of the California Department of Public Health Center for Infectious Diseases, said.Pan added that we could have a higher spike than we saw over the summer.Many are taking their words to heart and stocked up to stay home.
