According to AAA's annual projection released on Thursday, 55 million Americans are expected to travel this year for Thanksgiving, making it the busiest Thanksgiving for travel since 2005.AAA said it expects a 2.9 percent increase in traffic over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend from last year, which marks about 1.5 million additional travelers. Of the 55 million planning to travel more than 50 miles, 49.3 million will do so by automobile. For those planning on traveling the day before Thanksgiving, major delays are expected, especially in major metropolitan areas. “With record levels of travelers, and persistent population growth in the country’s major metropolitan areas, drivers must prepare for major delays,” said Trevor Reed, transportation analyst at INRIX. “Although travel times will peak on Wednesday afternoon nationally, travelers should expect much heavier than normal congestion throughout the week.”If traveling by plane, AAA recommends to travel the Monday before Thanksgiving to take advantage of lower rates. A new shareholder complaint against AT&T claims the company encouraged employees to create fake accounts for its DirecTV Now streaming service to juice its subscriber numbers and mislead investors ahead of its acquisition of Time Warner, shareholders allege in an amended complaint filed last week as part of a lawsuit against the company.According to the lawsuit, employees — who faced aggressive sales quotas — were "taught and actively encouraged" to convert activation fees that customers paid to upgrade their phones into the price for multiple DirecTV Now subscriptions. This was allegedly executed by "waiving the fee, but charging the customer anyway, and applying the payment to up to three DirecTV Now accounts using fake email addresses."The complaint claims customers were not told they had been signed up for a subscription, and that the company is said to have fielded regular complaints from customers who said that they were billed for accounts they did not sign up for. The complaint also details other alleged methods for increasing subscriptions without clients' consent.The purpose of these efforts, the lawsuit alleges, was to create the false impression that the service was compensating for declines in the legacy DirecTV satellite business, and to help justify the company's acquisition of Time Warner, now called WarnerMedia. An African American woman says she was discriminated against at J. Alexander’s restaurant in West Bloomfield, Michigan, when she was asked to give up her seat to a white man and refused service. She is calling for the termination of all employees involved. Lia Gant, her attorney Maurice Davis, and Jerrick Jackson, another patron at the restaurant last Thursday who says he was called the N-word, held a press conference Monday. “We refuse to backslide into a nation where black people are told to give up their seat to white people, where black people are denied services at restaurants,” said Davis. Thursday’s incident began when a white bartender asked Lia Gant and her friend to give up their seats at the bar for two white men, according to Gant. When Gant refused, the bartender took her drink and poured it down the sink. “I immediately got up and went to management and she said I shouldn’t be upset because the drink wasn’t thrown on me,” said Gant. Gant said she paid the bill after the manager refused to remove it. "I was racially profiled. I was told to move out of my seat for two other white men to be seated," she said. Meanwhile, Jackson said he was also discriminated against on the same day, when a white patron called him the N-word and told him to leave after he complained to management about poor service. Video was recorded as the white customer yelled at Jackson, hurled food, and nearly struck Gant’s friend in the face. When West Bloomfield police arrived, Jackson says the restaurant employees concealed the identity of the patron who threw food at them. “We will fight to ensure that J. Alexander’s is held accountable for denying our client’s rights to a public accommodation in violation of her fundamental civil rights,” said Davis in a release.
