Art has a way of bringing life to the world. Tucked away in Denver, Colorado, there are performers whose abilities and passion are unmatched. That place is Phamaly Theater Company. “This is a place where disability and just human difference is redefined,” says Regan Linton, artistic director of Phamaly Theatre. “It transforms the stories we tell, even though we are telling a lot of the same stories that other theatre companies do. We do it in a different way based off the identities of the people in our company.”Phamaly Theatre Company is a home for theatre artists with disabilities. “All the actors are exclusively actors with disabilities of all kinds,” Linton says. According to PTC website, it was founded in 1989 and created when five students from the Boettcher School in Denver, all living with disabilities, grew frustrated with the lack of theatrical opportunities for people living with disabilities. The group decided to create a theatre company that would provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to perform. “Right now, we are rehearsing for ‘Chicago,’” says Kathleen Traylor, an actress and one of the co-founders of PTC. “Back then, they could figure out how to get a life-size elephant on the stage, but a wheel chair always baffled them.” Traylor was born with multiple deformities caused by something called amniotic band syndrome. Traylor performs in a wheel chair due to this condition.“I went to special education schools that was all disabled kids,” Traylor says. “In sixth grade, I was too young to audition for the theater. I watched the very second play that they ever did, and 10 minutes into the show and I forgot the entire cast was all disabled. I just thought I had to be part of that magic.”Phamaly Theatre Company has been around for 30 years. “We are changing the nature of how we think of disability – that it’s not a limitation,” Linton says. “It’s not a limiting experience. It actually expands you to be a more complex, interesting, and talented, adaptable human being.” 2040

Briscoe Cain went to Facebook after seeing a homework assignment regarding U.S. President Donald Trump.The lesson was teaching 7th-grade students how to inference using 10 student-written essays at Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The assignment required students to read an excerpt from "Trump Against American Values" by Parker, and then answer the questions that followed. The first question asked, "Which of the following conclusions would the author most likely agree with?" The answer to the questions was, "Donald Trump should not be president."The second question asked what the reader would infer from reading the passage. The answer being, "Mexican Americans are the major group upset with President Trump."Cain said in his Facebook post that the superintendent of the district, Randal O'Brien, is aware of the issue and has taken corrective action. "It is our understanding the [sic] he and his administration have done all that state law allows them to do at this time," Cain said. "Superintendent O’Brien is and remains the right man for the job."Cain was made aware of the post by Chris Felder, a concerned parent at the school. “This was an assignment my 7th grade daughter received that I found to be very out of place to say the least," Felder commented, according to Cain's post. "This type of non-factual rhetoric has no place in our schools regardless of who the president is. My children have experienced great teachers in the classroom, but have also had to put up with those who see their role as indoctrinators, not educators. BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A woman in Florida was flown to a trauma center Saturday after she was bitten by an alligator.Nicole Tillman, 26, was swimming in a pond in Brevard County, Florida, when it happened.Brevard County Fire Rescue says the woman suffered significant bite injuries, but they are non-life threatening.A contracted nuisance alligator trapper successfully removed the 8-foot 6-inch gator from the pond. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.Serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida. At least 15 states have identified more than 120 cases of lung disease or injury that could be linked to vaping, a CNN survey of state health departments has found.States with the most cases include Wisconsin, with 15 confirmed cases and 15 more under investigation.
