SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- AMC is reopening an additional 140 theaters nationwide by Friday, including seven of its locations in San Diego County.The reopenings will mean 70 percent of the company's theaters, 420 total, will be open before Labor Day weekend.A vast majority of the theaters, the company said, will reopen on Thursday.On Friday, Sept. 4, these seven San Diego area theaters will be open to the public:AMC Chula Vista 10AMC Fashion Valley 18AMC La Jolla 12AMC Mission Valley 20AMC Otay Ranch 12AMC Plaza Bonita 14AMC DINE-IN Poway 10As part of the reopenings, AMC is "offering an array of food and beverage treats, including regular popcorn, regular Coca-Cola Freestyle drinks and KidsPacks, through the end of October. "We're really trying to minimize the amount of touch points that anybody needs to have, but hopefully once you get into the auditorium, you can sit down and get back to enjoying the movies."Thanks to the reopenings, Reading Cinemas in San Diego was able to rehire about 40 percent of their workforce.Gillich added, "It's the cheapest form of therapy you can get. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman who shot through her neighbors’ apartment in Clairemont Mesa after they complained about noise was convicted Tuesday.Brittany Lefler, 37, is facing up to 36 years in prison after being convicted of assault with a semiautomatic firearm among other charges.The prosecutor in the case argued that Lefler was drinking and was “out of control” and “verbally abusive” when Erik Morales called police around 1 a.m. on December 29, 2016 at her apartment on Beadnell Way. RELATED: Topless standoff suspect pleads not guilty in courtMorales and her roommates told police Lefler kept banging on the wall and screaming inside her apartment. When officers arrived, Lefler wanted to know who called police on her. Morales’ 19-year-old son said that, at one point, he went outside and asked Lefler to “keep it down.”That’s when Lefler reached into her boot and pulled out what appeared to be a gun. "She (Lefler) said, `C'mon outside, I'll bust a cap in you,"' Henry Molina testified.Molina said he heard Lefler telling police she kept a gun for “things like this.” Deputy District Attorney Michael Reilly told the jury that around 5 a.m., Lefler pointed her gun at the people inside Morales’ apartment before pulling the trigger."She (Lefler) did it on purpose," the prosecutor said. "In a moment of anger and fury, she shot through that front door. Ms. Lefler sent a message with a bullet through that front door. She can't do that!"Deputy Alternate Public Defender Gilson Gray told the jury Lefler called 911 several times that night but police didn’t help her.Gray said Lefler was home alone, scared and outnumbered by her complaining neighbors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. We want them to get time every 30 minutes to stop, wash their hands and clean their work stations," he said.Walters said Plexiglas has been installed at check out stands to protect workers at Albertsons and Vons, and next week Ralphs and Food For Less will see the same installation.He said employees are tired from the long shifts and urged the public to realize supplies aren't going anywhere. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A sea of purple covered Mission Bay Park as thousands showed up to ride, run and walk for epilepsy awareness.The event is Sharon's Ride, Run, Walk.  Sharon’s Ride was started by Dr. William Rosenfeld honor Dr. Rosenfeld’s sister, Sharon,  who was killed in a bicycle accident while bicycling cross country. She was also a nurse and teacher who cared deeply about epilepsy. Dr. Rosenfeld is the chairman of the event nationwide.   Participants could choose from a 15-mile bike ride or a 5k run or walk around Mission Bay.   The money raised benefits the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County.   678

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A security guard at a Clairemont strip mall narrowly avoided a devastating crash Friday.An elderly female driver hit two parked cars, then drove off an elevated parking lot and crashed through a rail. She landed on the street outside the Garfield Shopping Center at 4220 Balboa Avenue and Clairemont Drive.Robert Malone is the security guard for the Goodwill at the mall and was doing rounds of the property.On its way down, the van flew just six feet over Malone’s head.“I look up, I got a van coming at me,” said Malone.The van hit a telephone pole, bringing the pole and the lines down.Malone said up to a dozen men jumped down from the parking lot to pull the driver from the van. The group called 911 and paramedics took the woman to the hospital. No one else was hurt.San Diego Police are investigating the cause of the crash. 869
