SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Point Loma boy must now walk to and from school after a thief stole his custom BMX bike. San Diego Police need the public's help to find the man who took the boy's prized possession. BMX riding is 9-year-old Bradley Ramos' favorite pastime. It's a passion that runs in the family. His father, Aaron, dabbled it in as a child. So did Bradley's cousin, Tyler."This bike was actually his cousin's bike when his cousin was his age. Now his cousin is 21 years old, so the bike has been in the family for a while," Ramos said. That was, until Memorial Day morning. Bradley's mother noticed the bike was missing from their front porch."My bike and my helmet got stolen," Bradley said. The family's security camera captured a man walking away with Bradley's bike. The video shows the young man with arm tattoos wearing a hat and backpack. He looks to be wearing glasses and a distinctive white watch."It kind of sucks because I have to get rides to school now when usually, I'd ride my bike and it's way quicker," Bradley said. The bike theft is the second in as many weeks for the Ramos family. Last Monday, thieves made off with at least ,500 worth of tools from Ramos' work truck. "Since that's been happening, we've been bringing the bike in, and we didn't do it just that one night, and it was gone," Ramos said. The BMX bike has thin red wheels with a racing number plate in the front handlebars. It's not a common model, so the Ramos family is asking people to keep an eye out, and alert authorities if they spot it. To the man who made off with the Ramos' family heirloom, Bradley and his father have a stern message. "Give it back, and never come back to this neighborhood again," Bradley said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — UC San Diego was granted a temporary use permit by the city council in National City to use El Toyon Park to conduct a clinical vaccination trial.The permit is good from Sept. 16 to Oct. 31, 2022, with a rental rate of ,000 per month.A spokesperson for UCSD Health said the site would be for the Janssen clinical trial, which is still awaiting final approval locally; more details could not be confirmed Friday.The vaccination clinic would be set up in a parking lot at the park in National City, one of the communities heavily impacted by COVID-19.Community advocates have been working with UCSD to inform potential participants in the South Bay about vaccine trials.“The Chicano Federation has been working with a lot of our underserved communities, but also some of the hardest-hit communities by COVID-19, particularly the Latino communities,” said Roberto Alcantar, Chief Strategy Officer for the Chicano Federation. “One of the hot topics to come out of this is the issue with vaccinations.”Alcantar said concerns were raised over a different trial that was set to begin in the South Bay earlier this month; it was later put on hold. But UCSD quickly worked with the federation to ensure residents in the trial areas would get the information needed to make informed decisions if they wanted to participate.“We’re happy to see that UCSD is taking the lead in National City, and it’s not some other group because we know that they’re doing the best that they can to provide the right information,” he said. “If there are trials that are happening out there that are unethical or targeting people of color with incentives, we’ll call them out.”UCSD researchers previously said they hoped to focus on recruiting people for the trials from underserved communities with the highest rate of COVID-19.The San Diego Latino Health Coalition, which includes the Chicano Federation and several other nonprofit organizations, will continue community outreach efforts before the trial officially begins.“We’re very effective at getting the information out, and people are receptive to us because they trust us, they know us, we’ve been working with them for decades,” said Alcantar.There’s no word on when the trial will start, but soon there may be three clinical trials running simultaneously with two focused primarily on the South Bay. 2361

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - UC San Diego Health received its first batch of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, and the health care provider expects another shipment next week.“We expect next week to perhaps get 5,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine,” said Dr. Charles Daniels, Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC San Diego Health. Daniels added they could receive the shipment as soon as Monday or Tuesday, but no date has been finalized.The Moderna vaccine is still awaiting emergency use authorization from the FDA, which it could receive this week. Pfizer’s vaccine was the first to get such approval last week.UC San Diego received close to 3,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine Tuesday and plans to begin administering shots to its highest risk health care workers at its Hillcrest and La Jolla locations Wednesday morning.On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said California was expected to get 393,000 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week, on top of the 327,000 it received this week. Newsom said California is also slated to receive 672,000 doses of Moderna’s vaccine by the end of the month.San Diego County has not given an estimated timeline to receive the Moderna vaccine or how large a shipment it expects.UC San Diego Health was part of the Moderna trial, but Dr. Daniels says it is not the reason for their access to the vaccine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Young adults in the U.S. are moving more frequently than they did in 1960, according to a new report by Zillow. Data from San Diego, however, paints a different picture. According to the site, 33.8 percent of young adults in 1960 lived in their current home for less than two years. In 2017, more than 45 percent of young adults had lived in their current home for less than two years. San Diego, however, bucks the trend. In America’s Finest City, in 2017 the share of young adults who lived in a home less than two years is 50.6 percent, down from 54.4 percent in 1960. The data show that young San Diegans are moving less than in 1960. Among young adults who recently moved in the San Diego area, more than 68 percent moved within the metro, while 9.4 percent moved from a different metro in the state and 22.3 percent moved from outside the state. According to Zillow, changes in workplace norms have contributed to the changes in housing tenures. Zillow also says that, rather than climb the corporate ladder, many young adults move from one role or job to the next. The typical employed Millennial has been with their current employer for 2.8 years, according to Zillow. 1205
