SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNN) - Actor Will Ferrell is ‘grateful’ for well wishes received after a car crash on Interstate 5 in Orange County Thursday night."While traveling back to Los Angeles after hosting a voter registration event in San Diego, a car carrying Will Ferrell and three of his colleagues was struck on the freeway by another vehicle," read a statement Ferrell's representatives from United Talent Agency.Ferrell and another passenger were "unhurt" and were released from an Orange County hospital, according to UTA.RELATED: Will Ferrell rushed to hospital after crash on I-5Ferrell's longtime driver, Mark Thompson, and his another passenger, identified as Carolina Barlow, remain hospitalized in stable condition, the statement said.Ferrell is "staying close by as his friends are being treated, and has expressed his deep gratitude to the first responders who were immediately at the scene and to the hospital team that took such great care of them," the statement added.Ferrell, 50, was a passenger in an SUV that overturned during a two-car accident late Thursday at Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo, according to an accident report from the California Highway Patrol.According to the accident report, Ferrell's vehicle was struck when another car veered into its lane. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 13-year-old San Ysidro girl's act of kindness has helped inspire others to give.Sahara Rodriguez read an article and how a young boy in Tijuana, Alexis, was trading his toys for food after his mother lost her job during the pandemic. Rodriguez wanted to help. She asked her mother to begin collecting food. They went to neighbors and friends to gather what they could, then traveled across the border to deliver the food to Alexis family."I’m very proud of her," said her mother, Dafne Noguez. "She’s a very shy girl and I’m very surprised that she’s been coming out of her shell and able to help a lot of people.” Noguez credits Sahara's involvement with the Girl Scouts for helping her daughter develop more confidence and leadership skills."It’s just so inspiring to see how she’s growing in that sense," said Alexandra Delgado of Girl Scouts San Diego, who has worked with Sahara over the years. "She did that step herself. Nobody asked her to do it. She just felt it was right.”Since that first donation, Sahara has continued collecting food donations to take to Tijuana. Alexis' family is now back on its feet, and Alexis is helping Sahara find other families more in need of the aid. "As a Girl Scout, it’s good to help people and we need to be caring about other people," Sahara said.In addition to collecting donations to deliver across the border, Sahara also works to help Rady Children's Hospital and is now working on a project to contribute to her community in San Ysidro. 1515

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A big step taken in the effort to get the San Diego Police Department to stop using a specific restraining maneuver during arrests.On Tuesday, the community review board voted to recommend that the department gets rid of what police call a carotid restraint in some circumstances.  "Have you ever been choked or had the life choked out of you? I can snap back too!" The public was allowed in the meeting but was not supposed to talk. Desiree Smith couldn't help herself, because this issue is personal. "My son was choked by police at a homecoming event at the school," she said. The community review board debated whether or not San Diego police officers should be able to use the carotid restraint.Police are currently allowed to use the tactic to subdue people that they are trying to detain. Smith told 10News she does not think the restraint maneuver should be used, ever."It's inhumane," she said. "I wouldn't do it to an animal, let alone a human. They have stronger laws for animals than they do for humans."  1085

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A global recruitment company tells 10News there is a concern that the healthcare system is going to be over-run by patients.It brings up questions whether San Diego County has enough nurses to staff hospitals and medical centers if the coronavirus pandemic goes on for an extended period."The problem that we're seeing now, post-pandemic and coronavirus, is that those nurses can't flock to any one area to support people because the problem is, they have to support locally where they are," said Jon Griffith with the recruitment company GQR. Griffith explained there were supply and demand issues with nurses before COVID-19. Now travel nurses, who would typically fill the void are needed in every state, and not necessarily available to travel."We're seeing people called out of retirement," he said. "Nurses and physicians alike being requested to come out and support. Essentially what we're trying to do at GQR is to tap into those resources or new grad nurses, retired nurses, wherever we can to give that local support to these hospitals to try and mitigate that risk."Griffith told 10News the hospitals they've spoken with are aware of potential challenges and are gearing up to make sure people have their healthcare needs met."They are heroes alright," Griffith said. "We see this all on social media. They are on the frontlines still giving great patient care and focusing on that continuity of care and that right there is what this is all about.
