Chick-Fil-A is testing a new menu item in Arizona, and depending on how it goes, it could be rolled out to menus nationwide.Starting Monday, spicy chicken strips will be available at Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma, the fast-food chain said.They've been under test in Philadelphia and Texas since last year.The strips come in orders of three or four, and a choice of dipping sauce.The company said it combined their original chicken strips and spicy chicken strip sandwich to create the new menu item.The strips are seasoned with a spicy blend of peppers, hand-breaded, and cooked in refined peanut oil. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A skate park that was once riddled with graffiti is getting a grand homecoming in the South Bay.The City of Chula Vista will hold a grand reopening of the Len Moore Skate Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with raffles, prizes., local vendors, live music, and demonstrations by skating pros.The Boys and Girls Club closed the park last August due to costly maintenance and repair issues. This led to the organization giving up the park to the city.Since that time, though, vandalism and graffiti became a constant concern, which led to the park's reopening in February. City officials will now monitor the park for cleanliness and graffiti."Before the city could actually open it up there were some minor maintenance things that we needed to take care of. There were some ramps that needed to be taken out and demolished. There was a lot of graffiti," Gil Contreras, principal recreations manager with the City of Chula Vista, said.Community members had a say in the park's reopening as well. A series of community meetings asked the public what they wanted out of the park, the priority being the ability to skate for free. The park will also offer skate classes, day camps, and birthday party rentals.RESOURCES: Learning how to skateboard"We definitely took everything into consideration when reopening the park. [Community members] were concerned about the graffiti and the vandalism and things like that," Contreras said. "We did reassure them ... we have park rangers who frequently visit all of our parks. We have a staff who actually comes through every day and just kind of gets an idea and looks at everything and talks to the patrons."Since February's reopening, Contreras says all the city has received are positive remarks.The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk to skateboarding, BMX bikes, scooters, in-line skating, and roller skating. (KGTV) - Two threats to shoot students at Bonita Vista High School spread in a snap on social media Sunday, scaring students and parents, making them wary to go back to class Monday."It kinda caught fire on Snapchat that's where it spread like wildfire and everyone was talking about it it was everywhere," Bonita Vista High senior Andrew Garcia said. It was a screenshot of an Instagram comment that read, "Shooting up on the campus Monday. I like some of you. Try to skip school if you value your life." Another comment below read, "I don't think you guys are gonna wanna hide in the 900s," apparently referring to the campus' "math village."Another threat coming out around 9:30 p.m. with a similar message. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Four students at Montgomery High School were arrested Halloween Day during a state-mandated lockdown drill at school. The arrest is causing controversy, and many are now questioning the decision to carry out real arrests during a drill. It was a short 15-minute drill. No one in, no one out. “The whole school was on lockdown and everyone was in their classes. And we had to stay inside because cops came,” student Ernesto Miranda said. Police presence during a lock down is protocol. However, this time, four students were taken away in cuffs. Some are now criticizing San Diego Police officers’ unusual arrest strategy, accusing the department of suing the drill as a ruse to arrest the students under investigation. “It shouldn’t be, like use the lockdown as an excuse to OK, bust down these kids,” student Derek Uribe said. 10News spoke to Sweetwater Union High School District spokesman, Manny Rubio, who told us over the phone, this is the first time the district has ever agreed to cooperate in this kind of arrest. Montgomery High School’s state-mandated lockdown drill was planned for Tuesday, Nov. 13. But on Oct. 29, Rubio said SDPD requested the district to move the drill up sooner, because they urgently needed to make an arrest on campus. The school agreed. They immediately notified students and parents that there would be a drill sometime that week, before noon. Two days later, Rubio said the school carried out the drill. During the 15-minute drill, school stage brought each student in question into the office, where they were arrested by San Diego Police. Rubio said the school made sure to minimize the effects onto the 1,800 students and 100 staff, making the arrests away from classrooms. "I want to be a cop so I think it's smart to not make it a big deal and come in and everything. Just [during] a lockdown drill,” Miranda said. The police department, the school district, nor the District Attorney’s office would specify the exact charges the students face. But Rubio said they allegedly committed multiple violent crimes throughout the county that were, “incredibly severe in nature.”10News asked SDPD a number of questions, including why the students were not arrested at their homes, and why they waited two days before arresting them. (KGTV) - A report says Chula Vista faces an immediate need for more police staffing to keep up with rapid growth, and that traffic congestion will worsen in the coming years.At a Special Meeting called for Thursday evening, the city’s Growth Management Oversight Commission (GMOC) is expected to present to the city council its review for fiscal year 2018, which includes recommendations on how to properly address issues directly caused by the city's progression.Chula Vista’s exponential growth over the past five years has led to a big increase in homes being built across Chula Vista. The city says “the number of residential building permits issued in Chula Vista averaged 1,008 units per calendar year” between 2013-2018. "This rate of growth is projected to continue or increase over the next five years, according to Chula Vista’s 2018 Residential Growth Forecast, updated in April 2019," the GMOC says. "With growth comes the demand for additional services and facilities."The GMOC warns that the Chula Vista's police department is not prepared to accommodate anticipated growth in the next 12-18 months or five years. It also addresses concerns that road congestion will get worse along Palomar Street given that improvements will take a half decade to complete.The GMOC’s annual reports, including the fiscal year 2018 report, “addresses compliance with delivery of services and facilities, based on threshold standards for the eleven service topics identified in the City’s Growth Management ordinance.”According to the GMOC’s report for 2018, four service topics are considered “not in compliance” with the city’s threshold and at risk of continuing to be non-compliant in the future: Libraries, Police [Priority 1], Police [Priority 2], and Traffic.POLICEWith the city’s continuing growth, the report shows there has not been enough police staffing to adequately respond to both emergency calls and urgent calls, as well as the volume of calls, thus leading to slower response times.The GMOC says the police department's response times for Urgent Calls for Service in fiscal year 2018 were calculated at 20:17, about 8 minutes and 17 seconds slower than the 12-minute threshold. 2222
