KANSAS CITY, Mo. --  Most people quit their jobs by submitting a resignation letter or simply not showing up, but one local man is going viral for the unique way he quit at an area Popeyes.Cedrick Workuff grabs a microphone before he heads into the Popeyes near 103rd and State Line Rd. Tuesday afternoon. "I come in here and slave all the time," he says in the now-viral video. "They think I'm going to go in there and be like 'I quit, I quit.' No, I'm about to go in there and sing."Followed by his friend, Marco Summers, who is recording on his phone, Workuff grabs a microphone and heads to the door. "Excuse me, sir," Workuff said as he squeezes past a customer at the door. "I'm about to quit my job today." In the next few minutes, Workuff improvises a catchy song as the chuckling customers and confused employees stare on. Since the video was posted Tuesday afternoon, it's earned over 72800 views and nearly 13,000 shares. So what's the story behind the viral video? In an interview with 41 Action News, Workuff revealed he didn't even work at the Popeyes in the first place. Summers says he made the video to spread positivity and make people laugh."It's something me and Marco wanted to put in the works," said Summers. "It wasn't planned. It was all improvised. Only the idea was planned." Summers says he's made several other videos that have been shared by celebrities and TV shows like 'Right This Minute.'He gets his inspiration from his own experiences."I've been through most of the stories I talk about. Instead of letting them damage me, I make them something funny," Summers said. That's the question the San Diego County Fire Department is asking after the official legal takeover of the formerly volunteer-run Julian-Cuyamaca Fire District. The county and the small town department are stuck in a legal battle since the volunteer department's dissolution in April 2019. Previously, members of LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission), a group that overseas special county districts, voted to dissolve the volunteer-run fire department. In March 2019, citizens voted the fire agency in charge should be San Diego County Fire Department. In April 2019, the official handover was supposed to happen. People that are their neighbors, their friends," Julian resident Vicki Newman said. Newman said she has been an advocate for the small town department since volunteers saved her brother-in-law's life. On that August day in 1960, a group of about 200 white men – brandishing baseball bats and ax handles – attacked a group of African American protesters at a lunch counter sit-in. The violence eventually spread into a park and nearby streets, where the mob attacked any African Americans in sight.“It didn’t make any difference who you were. If you had black skin, you were attacked,” said Rodney Hurst, Sr., who survived Ax Handle Saturday.Hurst was a teenager then, participating in a lunch counter sit-in, when the violence began.“Our only option then was to run for safety because there was nothing,” he said. “There were no policemen downtown for protection of any kind, so we started running.”He later wrote a book about his experience, called “It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke.”“The title, ‘It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke,’ simply means that it was about human dignity and respect,” he said.A 60th anniversary commemoration of Ax Handle Saturday has long been planned in the downtown park where it took place. Organizers said the RNC being in town at the same time won’t change that.“The Republican Party has connected Donald Trump’s acceptance speech in an inextricable way to the anniversary of Ax Handle Saturday,” Hurst said. “We don’t mind. If you want to do something on August 27, that’s fine. What we’re commemorating happened 60 years ago.”It’s an incident that, despite the passage of time, remains very much in the present.Just last week, the city of Jacksonville removed a Confederate monument from the public park where violence occurred on Ax Handle Saturday in 1960. (KGTV) - Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force notified residents of Jacumba Hot Springs and Boulevard Thursday about the placement of a sexually violent predator. Law enforcement officers went door to door in the East San Diego County communities to make neighbors aware that Alan Earl James will be placed into the area on or before April 25. James is scheduled to move to 45612 Old Highway 80 after he is released from Department of State Hospitals Coalinga, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
