Can you spot a fake?Some US Customs and Border Protection officers did -- in September, they intercepted a shipment of over over 9,000 counterfeit Nike sneakers in New York, the agency said in a news release.The shipment of shoes had come from China and was headed to California, when CBP officers inspected it at the Port of New York/Newark.They thought something looked off about the shoes, and submitted images to the CBP's Apparel Footwear and Textiles Center for Excellence and Expertise, the agency's trade experts.On Thursday, the agency concluded the shoes were counterfeit and seized them. Real versions of the sneakers would have been worth nearly .7 million, according to CBP."This significant seizure of counterfeit Nike sneakers illustrates Customs and Border Protection's continued commitment to protecting the American consumer against the proliferation of substandard and potentially unsafe counterfeit consumer goods," stated Troy Miller, Director of CBP's New York Field Office, said in a statement Tuesday.On a typical day in 2017, CBP seized .3 million worth of products with Intellectual Property Rights violations in a day, according to the agency."Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights laws is a CBP priority trade mission," said Miller. "We will continue to work closely with our trade and law enforcement partners to identify and seize counterfeit merchandise that could potentially harm US consumers and businesses." 1460

(KGTV) - On Thursday, police reform activists gathered outside the Carlsbad Police Department to publicly discuss their recent meeting with police over last month's controversial arrest and Taser incident with Marcel Cox-Harshaw, an African American man."We're satisfied with the fact that they met us but we're not overall satisfied until we see results," said Yusef Miller with the North County Civil Liberties Coalition.Sheila Kenny with Indivisible49 told reporters, "Citizens of North County want to express their concerns about the possibility of future incidents reoccurring if the police department does not make some changes."RELATED: Activists to demand changes within Carlsbad Police Department after controversial arrestRobert Jenkins with the North County NAACP added, "We feel in this time of heightened police brutality and racial injustices among people of color, specifically African American men, that racial bias training should be more frequent."Witness video shows officers using a Taser on Harshaw and pressing his head into the pavement. (KGTV) - Instead of planning for a wedding, loved ones of a Camp Pendleton marine were holding a funeral this Memorial Day weekend.From the moment Kathleen Bourque met Conor McDowell off a dating app last summer in Washington D.C., it was electric."Insane, crazy, passionate ... He has a huge heart and always puts others before himself, and I was really drawn to that," said Kathleen.Four days later, the graduate of The Citadel asked her to move to San Diego as he reported for duty at Camp Pendleton. She said yes. During the cross-country trip, she wondered aloud, 'What are we doing?'""He said, 'Kathleen, trust is a choice ... We're both insane, but at least we're insane together, and give them something to talk about," said Kathleen.Together, they moved into an apartment in Cardiff and their love grew. California, get ready for nonstop flights to Hawaii on Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines announced on Thursday that four California cities will serve nonstop flights to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu (HNL), Kahului Airport on Maui (OGG), Lihue Airport on Kauai (LIH), and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (KOA). Southwest Airlines plans to fly to those Hawaiian cites from Oakland Metropolitan Airport (OAK), San Diego International Airport (SAN), Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and Sacramento International Airport (SMF). The Texas-based airline plans to sell tickets to Hawaii sometime in 2018. The service plans are pending FAA approval.  743

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A brush fire broke out in Carlsbad Friday morning along busy Palomar Airport Road.The fire started about 11:15 a.m. and sent a plume of smoke above the area near Palomar Oaks Way, between Aviara Parkway and El Camino Real. Flames were contained to about five acres by 1 p.m. They appeared to be confined to eucalyptus trees east of The Crossings golf course and near office buildings.Carlsbad Police reported on twitter they briefly evacuated businesses on Dryden Place about noon. The evacuation was lifted about 20 minutes later. There was no word on what caused the fire.Westbound traffic on Palomar Airport Road was stopped at Camino Vida Roble.Check traffic 696
