RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Sheriff’s sex crimes task force is investigating reports of a Ramona family who offered free train rides to families at their home, despite the presence of a registered sex offender. The Green family’s miniature railroad was years in the making. Recently, the family invited the Ramona community to visit the property. However, the Megan’s Law website reports 45-year-old Christopher Green, who lives at the home with his parents, is a registered sex offender. His convictions include lewd acts with a child under 14, the Megan’s Law site indicates.10News went to the Greens’ home to ask why the family didn’t let the public know about their son’s background. Green’s father would not go on camera but said his son has paid his dues, the incident was in the past, and the family is moving on. He added there would be plenty of supervision at the holiday train rides and said there’s more to his son’s conviction than meets the eye. Green’s father also said his son has a learning disability. The Sheriff’s Department issued a statement which reads in part, “The sexual assault felony enforcement task force was made aware of the event and has opened an investigation. We will be taking measures to keep the community in Ramona safe for this event.” 1298
President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that Sec. of Defense Mark Esper has been terminated.Trump added that he has tasked Christopher C. Miller to take over as Acting Sec. of Defense.Esper took over as Acting Sec. of Defense in June and was named as the department's director shortly thereafter. Late last week, NBC News reported that Esper had drafted a resignation letter in the days following the 2020 presidential election.Esper has been at odds with Trump throughout his tenure. In June, he said he opposed the President's call to use active-duty military members to break up protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.NBC News also reports that Esper plans to help Congress draft legislation that would re-name military bases that honor Confederate generals — a policy that Trump also opposes.Esper was Trump's second full-time Secretary of Defense. Jim Mattis served in the role from 2017 until Jan. 1, 2019, when he resigned following Trump's call to remove U.S. troops from Syria. 1026
Researchers are working to find out who is buried in the 604 unmarked graves that were found on Clemson University's campus. In a press release, university officials said crews were surveying the Woodland Cemetery, located near Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, when the unmarked graves were found.Using ground-penetrating radar, crews initially found 200 unmarked graves, but as the project went on, crews found 404 more graves."The number of graves coupled with the locations suggests the possibility that some may pre-date the period when the land was part of Calhoun's Fort Hill Plantation from 1830 to 1865," university officials stated in the press release. "Many of the graves are thought to be those of enslaved people who worked at the plantation and later as sharecroppers and Black laborers, including convicted individuals involved in the construction of Clemson College from 1890 to 1915."According to Greenville News, University Historian Paul Anderson and a research assistant will comb through census data and archives to find out who is buried there and when they were placed there.Former Clemson trustee Jim Bostic told the Greenville News that a large memorial would be put in place to honor those in the unmarked graves. 1258
