SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer issued a warning to motorized scooter and bike companies, tweeting a letter Friday night. In part it reads, "ongoing violations will result in revocation of your permit to operate within the City, or will serve as justification for not renewing your permit when it expires in six months... It is your responsibility to proactively move your devices within three hours... or it will be impounded."The companies could face an impounding fee of per device.Several riders told 10News they had no idea what the rules for riding and parking scooters were. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric says more than 21,000 residents could lose power amid a coming Santa Ana wind event.The company said Saturday it notified thousands of residents about the possibility of power outages to reduce wildfire risk both Monday and Tuesday.The outages could take place in south Orange County and north San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans could soon be using just their faces to board a plane, a cruise ship or get into a rock concert.It's because more companies are testing, or rolling out, the controversial facial recognition technology. "Facial recognition is great if it works. If it doesn't, it produces problems," said Stephen Cobb, senior security researcher at ESET. A Ticketmaster-owned company will soon test facial recognition to get people into events faster. In other words, a person could theoretically upload an image of their face onto an app, and then go right into the event without stopping for a ticket scan or, potentially, a security check.Jet Blue rolled out the facial recognition technology last year, and Royal Caribbean cruises is starting to do the same. "It sounds alright but it also sounds kind of weird to have your face in there," said Kathy Nagy, who used a mobile ticket to get into Wednesday's Padres game. "I think that having a ticket on your phone is just as fast as showing your face."Cobb said there are many concerns over how companies will maintain and protect people's data, including even whether they have the capabilities to avoid breaches."I don't see any commercial roll out of facial recognition which is purely around efficiency," he said. "Frankly, I have doubts around efficiency of the technology at this point."U.S. Customs and Border Protection is already using facial recognition technology at Lindbergh Field to scan international arrivals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating Monday the discovery of a woman's body in a car parked in the Crown Point neighborhood of Pacific Beach.The decomposed remains were found in a black Acura SUV in the 3700 block of Yosemite Street, a residential area three blocks west of Crown Point Park.Neighbors had called to report the vehicle due to a foul odor.The window on the passenger side of the vehicle was broken by police, according to our 10News crew.Officers said the death did not appear to be suspicious, however they did not release details about the circumstances. 595

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican whose term ends next month, revealed he is considering running for governor in an interview Thursday with the Los Angeles Times.The race will be tough for any Republican, according to political analyst John Dadian, because registered Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California. Those registered with no party preference also outnumber Republicans. “The uphill is he’d have to pull in all the people that are neither democrat or republican, but it’s certainly possible," Dadian said.According to Dadian, many political pundits consider Faulconer to be the most viable Republican in a general election, citing his record as a moderate mayor who frequently cross the aisle to work with Democrats on issues such as climate change. Faulconer's PAC raised more than 0,000 in the first half of the year, with the biggest donations coming from outside San Diego, which Dadian says is another indication of Faulconer's viability.Dadian says he expects Faulconer to spend much of his time traveling the state once he leaves office to build his profile and introduce himself to voters away from his home base.
