(KGTV) — Before you reluctantly stretch the outer edges of your mouth to appear as though you approve of the subject at hand, consider your liver.According to a recent study by researchers at Penn State and the University of Buffalo, forcing a smile at work could lead to drinking heavily after hours.Researchers interviewed more than 1,500 participants who routinely work with the public, including nurses, service industry workers, and teachers. RELATED: San Diego among top cities where adults still live with parents, study saysData showed that those who found themselves regularly faking or amplifying positive emotions, like smiling, were more likely to engage in heavier drinking after work, researchers said. Those who suppressed negative emotions (eye roll, anyone) were also more likely to drink heavily after work.While previous research has linked service workers with problematic drinking, Alicia Grandey, professor of psychology at Penn State, said it's not clear why. "Faking and suppressing emotions with customers was related to drinking beyond the stress of the job or feeling negatively," Grandey said. "It wasn't just feeling badly that makes them reach for a drink. (KGTV) - A former Oceanside resident whose son was fatally injured in a 2011 crash involving an undocumented immigrant saidBrenda Sparks, who has since moved from San Diego County to Arizona, said she was forced to leave because California's government "does not want to protect me.""I was born and raised in California, that's my home. And I was pushed out of my home by a government who does not want to protect me," Sparks told KNXV. Sparks's son was killed in a 2011 crash in Yucaipa when an undocumented immigrant without a driver's license crashed into his motorcycle.Sparks specifically slammed Governor Jerry Brown, who passed legislation in 2017 to designate California a "sanctuary state.""Jerry Brown has many, many deaths, much blood on his hands as a result of this," Sparks said regarding "sanctuary state" laws enacted in the state. 870

(KGTV and wire reports) -- In a lengthy press conference with reporters in the White House Rose Garden on Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump said he would consider building a wall without approval from Congress.His remarks came after he met with Democratic Congressional leaders, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, about ending the partial government shutdown. "Yes, I have. And I can do it if I want," Trump told a reporter when he was asked if has considered using emergency powers to build his wall and secure the .6 billion needed for construction.The reporter then asked if that means he doesn't need Congressional approval to build the wall."Absolutely," Trump said. "We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it."The White House message during the shutdown has been that there is a "national security emergency" at the border.Asked if that was a threat to Democrats, Trump replied, "I never threaten anybody, but I am allowed to do it -- call a national emergency."ABC News, citing sources, reported Friday that Trump's administration could reprogram funds from the Department of Defense and elsewhere – a move which would circumvent Congress – to build the wall. (KGTV) – Federal investigators are continuing to look into the backgrounds and motives of the El Paso and Dayton shooting suspects to determine if the shootings were instances of hate crime that may have been inspired by the Poway synagogue shooting.<br /><br />The El Paso shooter was taken into custody after killing at least 20 at a Walmart store on Aug. 3. Investigators said the 21-year-old suspect pulled the trigger just 20 minutes after posting a racist manifesto.<br /> <br />Hours later, police in Dayton shot and killed a man who opened fire at a downtown entertainment district. Multiple people, including the gunman’s sister, died at the hands of the gunman.<br /> <br />Sociologist Dr. Pete Simi studies political extremism and violence at Chapman University. Pretty young."<br /><br />Simi also said the young, tech-savvy generation connects with like-minded people on anonymous online forums like 8chan.<br /> <br />In his manifesto published on 8Chan, the El Paso shooter posted: "In general, I support the Christchurch shooter and his manifesto. This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas."<br /><br />Earlier this year, the suspect in the Poway synagogue shooting shared a similar message on 8chan in which he also praised the work of the New Zealand mosque shooter.<br /><br />"In some cases, they talk about is how you could've been more active, or you could've killed more people if they had done X-Y-Z," Simi said. "Or they're discussing the relative merits of this type of violence and pros and cons. It's really a cesspool environment."<br /><br />At this point, the Dayton suspect's motive has not been confirmed. But he too is a young, lone-acting shooter who wore body armor. FBI investigators are now digging into his digital background to find answers.<br /><br />"What may connect them though is there may be some kind of copycat aspect to it," Simi said.<br /><br />In light of the mass shootings, Frederick Brennan, the founder of 8chan, demanded the site be shut down.<br /><br />He said he created the website in 2013 as a free speech forum, but relinquished ownership in 2015. 2826

(KGTV) - A U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed Wednesday morning near Naval Weapons Station China Lake in Central California, military officials said. The single-seat F/A-18E Super Hornet went down about 10 a.m. in Inyo County, Navy officials posted on Twitter. The jet, based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, was on a routine training flight. The cause of the crash is unknown.Death Valley National Park's public information officer Patrick Taylor said he received a call from the Panamint Springs Resort in Darwin of a military plane crash on the west side of Death Valley, near Father Crowley Overlook. The area is also known as "Star Wars Canyon" because the manuevers jets perform are similar to those in the film's battle scenes."We saw the smoke from it," an employee of the resort told 10News.There was no immediate word on the status of the pilot. Two aircraft were flying at the time, but the other pilot likely did not see the crash.Seven park visitors received minor injuries as a result of the crash.A search-and-rescue helicopter was sent to the scene, CNN reported. NWS China Lake and Inyo County sent officers to the area to guard the crash site, Taylor said. Temperatures at the crash site were in the low 100s Wednesday.The jet was part of VFA-151, a squadron belonging to Carrier Air Wing 9 and attached to USS John C.
