(KGTV) — Voter registration has reached an all-time high in California ahead of November's midterm elections, according to newly released state data.A record 19,696,371 Californians were registered to vote as of Oct. 22, an increase of 1,892,548 registered voters since 2014, Secretary of State Alex Padilla's office says.That means about 78.16 percent of Californians are eligible to vote, the state's highest level since the state's 1950 gubernatorial election.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE ELECTION COVERAGE"It is nearly unprecedented for California to set a voter registration record in a midterm election," Padilla said in a release. A 73-year-old woman who was struck by a stray bullet while sitting in her kitchen has died.Investigators say the bullet entered her home off Dunn Road in Riley Township, Michigan on Sunday afternoon.Detectives told Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit a neighbor was shooting target practice at the time. They believe he may have missed a large pile of dirt he was trying to hit.They have seized at least two rifles from his home.The woman was rushed to the hospital where she later died.Her name is not being released. Charges may come as early as Monday morning.  598

(KGTV) - There is a hit-and-run crash every minute in the United States, according to a new report from the American Automobile Association.And in 2016, a record 2,049 people died in one of them - mainly bicyclists and pedestrians. The figure is a 60 percent increase since 2009, according to AAA."Whether you're a bicyclist or a pedestrian, and a vehicle comes out of nowhere and you're involved in an incident with it, and then for the driver to take off. It's not only frustrating, it's very sad that people will do this," said Doug Shupe, a spokesman for the AAA. RELATED: California has the most aggressive drivers, study saysThe Auto Club is once again calling for drivers to be alert on the road - especially with distractions and more people out during the summer months.Hit-and-runs range from fender benders in a parking lot to fatal crashes. The penalties for not stopping are stiff.
