SAN DIEGO (CNS and KGTV) - San Diego's City Council voted 6-3 Tuesday night to place restrictions on sleeping and living in vehicles on city streets and parking lots.The vehicle habitation ordinance goes into effect immediately and restricts people from living in their vehicles anywhere within 500 feet of a school or residence. It also places an overnight ban between from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. anywhere in the city, with the exception of approved lots. According to a news release from the city, the ordinance aims to address illegal dumping, public urination and drug use on city streets and in parking lots. “We are creating a balance that provides opportunities to those in need while protecting our neighborhoods from behavior that creates unsanitary conditions and hurts quality of life,” Mayor Faulconer said. “If you want to work toward finding a permanent home, we have programs that can help. We will not allow the proliferation of ‘van life’ culture that takes advantage of San Diego’s generosity and destroys community character.”The ordinance will be enforced using criteria including sleeping, bathing, meal preparation, grooming items and containers of human waste. (AP) — A lawsuit filed by the Satanic Temple alleges an advertising company unfairly refused to display billboards promoting a ritual offered by the group to help people bypass abortion rules in some states. The group, based in Salem, Massachusetts, announced Wednesday that it sued Lamar Advertising in Arkansas state court for alleged religious discrimination. The Louisiana-based company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Satanic Temple says Lamar refused to display eight billboards in Arkansas and Indiana promoting what the group calls its “religious abortion ritual.” The Satanic Temple describes the ritual as a “sacramental act that confirms the right of bodily autonomy.”By performing the ritual, the group says, people can claim a religious exemption from mandatory waiting periods, counseling, ultrasounds and other measures that some states require before an abortion can be performed.The group says it submitted five designs to Lamar to be displayed near crisis pregnancy centers. In one of the images, a bowl of cake batter is shown with the text, “not a cake,” next to an image of a sperm and egg with the text “not a baby.” It’s accompanied by text saying, “Our religious abortion ritual averts many state restrictions.”Lamar rejected the billboards and said their content was “misleading and offensive,” according to the suit. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a fight in the College Area, police said Thursday.The stabbing was reported shortly before 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 71st Street and Mohawk Street, about two blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Officers responded and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper torso, Dobbs said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m. Wednesday.Investigators determined the victim was hosting a gathering at the residence when some a disagreement began, prompting the him to ask people to leave, the lieutenant said. About 30 minutes later, some of the attendees returned and a fight broke out, during which the victim was stabbed.The suspects drove off in two vehicles, one described as a silver sedan and the other as a tan- or gold-colored sedan, Dobbs said.No detailed descriptions of the suspects were immediately available. 1043
