SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A lawsuit has now been filed surrounding the platform collapse that injured 21 children and some adults last November at Vault PK parkour gym inside a Barrio Logan warehouse. Two mothers and six children are represented in the complaint, filed against Vault PK and San Diego's Metropolitan Transportation System (MTS), among other defendants.MTS owned the warehouse and subleased the space to a business that subleased again to Vault PK. A few days after the collapse, MTS was hit with a dozen building code violations. Some of the families are suing MTS and Vault PK for negligence, among other complaints.MTS told 10News it won't comment on pending litigation.  713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new COVID-19 testing site opened Wednesday morning at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, with tests for the virus available at no cost. The free test site is located at the PedEast crossing of the Port of Entry. It will be open 6:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.About 200 tests will be administered daily, and no appointments will be necessary. San Diego County health officials said those getting tested “will not be asked about their immigration status or who lives with them.”Health officials said the site is focused on “testing essential workers and American citizens who live in Tijuana, as well as residents in the area.”Jennifer Bransford-Koons, the county’s testing director, said it’s possible the hours at the new site could eventually change.“We’re starting out first thing in the morning as people cross the border … to be able to see if that’s a good time to have people to be able to test. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll move to the afternoon or other days of the week. The purpose is to provide accessible testing to members of the public,” she said.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, “We know that communities in South Bay have been hit the hardest by COVID-19. The location was selected because of the increase in cases in the region and the number of people, especially essential workers who cross daily.”Earlier this week, a no-appointment test site opened at Cal State San Marcos. Many county coronavirus testing locations require appointments, which can be made by visiting 211sandiego.org or calling 211. 1578

The red flag warning goes into effect from 5 a.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday for San Diego County’s inland valleys and mountains, the National Weather Service said. East to northeast winds 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour are forecast. Winds will be the strongest below the Cajon Pass and in the Santa Ana Mountains, according to the agency. Lowest daytime humidity will reach 5 to 10 percent with poor overnight recovery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A program dedicated to giving high school girls in under-served areas skills to help get good part-time jobs is being given a ,000 grant from The San Diego Foundation."These students are going to be able to experience real world, hands-on training in highly technical fields," said Katie Rast from The San Diego Foundation.Called "Girls Take Flight", 20 students from schools in Southeast San Diego are spending their spring break in a classroom partaking in a "drone camp".The girls are learning how to build, fly, repair, and code drones. The hope is that those skills will help them get the part-time jobs that they'll likely need to pay for college. In addition, about half of the students will be awarded internships with the Elementary Institute of Science, which is administering the program. Those internships will include tours and introductions to potential mentors from prestigious San Diego-based tech companies, including Qualcomm, Northrop Grumman, and General Atomics.10News spoke with students who say opportunities such as this one are hard to find in communities such as theirs, leading to their dedication to take advantage."I know my parents did so much to bring me here," said Sundus Mohamed, a Crawford High student and daughter of Somali immigrants. "I feel it would just be a waste, just plain rude to not take all the opportunities given to me." 1399
