SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The future of SDCCU Stadium, formerly Qualcomm, will be in the hands of voters in 2018.The SoccerCity San Diego proposal has already earned its spot on the ballot and now SDSU West is hoping to do the same.If SDSU West can win the votes, it plans to put a university research center, stadium and river park on the stadium site.As for SoccerCity, planners hope to create a mixed-use stadium for MLS Soccer and college football, parks, housing, and entertainment.This week some SoccerCity supporters noticed "likes" on the SDSU West Facebook page increased significantly, from just under 500 to nearly 50,000 in a few days.Confusion turned to frustration when they noticed they too "liked" the page when in fact they hadn't."I went to investigate myself to see if that was true, and sure enough when I went on the page I had liked and followed it, without ever having liked or followed it," said Dory Freiberg, an SDSU alum.Freiberg says he's been open to learning more about the SDSU West plan but currently believes SoccerCity will be better for the city."I want to make sure that if it is defeated it's defeated legitimately because it's not the best plan for the city and not any kind of underhandedness," said Freiberg.James Stroud, a longtime San Diego resident, says he too noticed he "liked" the page when in fact he never clicked the 'like' button."It's something that makes them appear more popular than they are, gives them an aura of importance or trustworthiness when it wasn't deserved," Stroud believes.Stroud believes that's problematic as SDSU West tries to garner signatures to get on the November ballot.A quick search of Facebook community forums shows it's not a new issue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The City Council is expected to decide on a proposal that would turn two purchased hotels into housing for San Diego’s homeless, and on Monday, Mayor Kevin Faulconer made a push in favor of the plan.Part of California’s Project Homekey includes an initiative to provide more homeless Californians with permanent housing amid the COVID-19 crisis. The project’s budget is 0 million, with million for San Diego County.At a Monday press conference, Faulconer said, “Our goal was to reimagine our homeless system to get folks into housing more quickly with an emphasis on 'quickly.’ Tomorrow, the City Council will have the opportunity to put these dollars to good use for hotels to be transformed into 332 new housing units.”The city is working with San Diego's Housing Commission (SDHC) to turn two Residence Inns -- one in Mission Valley's Hotel Circle and the other in Kearny Mesa -- into apartment-style homes for the homeless.The hotels-turned-apartments would ideally create 300 units for over 400 homeless individuals, many of whom are currently staying inside the San Diego Convention Center's temporary housing facility.But some San Diegans like Josh, who resides next door to the Residence Inn in Mission Valley, are in favor of finding solutions for the homeless crisis but against the locations the SDHC has chosen."If you see the homeless shelters in downtown, those don't look like the best places on outside. A lot of loitering, crowds, so we're not informed on what this will look like," said Josh.He said if the purchase gets approved, he wants there to be strict guidelines for tenants."People who are elderly, have kids, or demonstrated work history. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The days of free parking at the Westfield UTC Mall are numbered and it could cost some employees. Come January 30, the mall will roll out its 'secured parking plan' aimed at keeping non-shoppers from parking on the property.Customers can park free for the first two hours and then pay per additional hour, with a daily maximum of . While the parking stations have been in place for months, some mall employees say they were blindsided to learn they too might have to pay for parking. Mall officials say employers have the option of purchasing parking passes for employees. If not purchased by the employer, individual employees may purchase the passes themselves.“It’s another bill to put on top of the rest," said one employee, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of being fired. His employer will not be purchasing parking passes for employees. The anonymous employee says they were told daily passes will cost and monthly passes will cost .“Personally it’s 0 out of my budget each year to go to work, and that’s on top of car payment and insurance," said the employee.He's concerned for mall employees who only make minimum wage and cannot afford the extra cost. While the mall is offering subsidized public transit passes, the concerned employee says that's not an option for everyone. He wishes there had been more transparency about the policy in the months leading up to January 30 roll-out. Father Son Holy Spirit," she said crossing herself, "and I dropped to my knees."Muno had a career in aviation, performing duties from flight attendant to loading the aircraft and working on flight plans. Just watching the video made her tear up, knowing his safe landing was a miracle."We're all blessed. If I had lost Ryan, but he saved so many people," she said wiping away a tear.Muno said Ryan's been an instructor for two years, pursuing his second dream after a concussion during a baseball game changed his trajectory."When he was a little baby he used to lay down in the first class cabin and just go to sleep," she said he found his love of flying from growing up traveling with her.After his emergency landing, she's not too keen on him jumping back into the cockpit.Last night she urged him to hang out with his friends, or his father, "because if I get you, I'm never going to let you go," she said choking back tears.She said Ryan is probably going to go back to work tomorrow.
