Parents are considering different options when it comes to school as they manage the pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic.One option is called micro-schooling, which is basically a small school. She hopes micro-schools can help ease drop-out rates, making sure no kid falls through the cracks.She says they also allow teachers to build relationships with each student and focus on their passions.“We all thrive when we're seen and heard and valued, and that can't always happen if a teacher has 149 other kids to teach that day,” said O'Shaughnessy.She says parents in the Seattle area have turned to social media with questions about logistics or inclusion. That's also true for a mom in Boston who has created a Facebook group for parents and educators interested in micro-schooling."We want to utilize curriculum that our school system is working very hard to create,” said Jennifer Quadrozzi, who started the Massachusetts "Micro-Schooling" Resource Group. “We by no means are saying that's not good enough for us. People who watch certain classic Disney movies on Disney+ will see a new, more strongly worded advisory warning about racist content.Disney announced last year when they launched they would include an advisory on some films that read "may contain outdated cultural depictions."Now, the advisory has stronger wording, and will be included on films like “Peter Pan,” “Dumbo” and “Lady and the Tramp” that contain racist or insensitive content. In a statement on their website, they explain their decision to add an advisory.“As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, we are in the process of reviewing our library and adding advisories to content that includes negative depictions or mistreatment of people or cultures. Rather than removing this content, we see an opportunity to spark conversation and open dialogue on history that affects us all,” the company states.Disney says they are making decisions on which films receive the advisory based on guidance from third-party partners, including AAFCA, GLAAD, NALIP, among others.This is what the new advisory says:This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. Police are investigating two related robberies that happened late last night.A 71-year-old woman, her adult daughter and juvenile granddaughter were robbed by 2 men around 11:18 p.m. in the parking garage at Treasure Island on the Las Vegas Strip. Police say the 3 females were battered during the incident. The extent of their injuries are unknown.Next, police say a couple, both of whom are 18 years old, were robbed by the 2 men with a gun in a parking lot at Fashion Show mall.Police spotted the men in the parking garage of the SLS hotel-casino. The men rammed an empty patrol car in their attempt to escape. After a short foot chase, they were taken into custody by Las Vegas police.  703

Over 1 million children under the age of 19 in the United States have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association said in a new report on Monday.According to the data, as of Nov. 12, 1,039,464 children have tested positive, accounting for 11.5% of all cases in states reporting cases by age.Pediatricians said 111,946 new child cases were reported last week, the highest weekly total of any previous weeks since the pandemic began."A smaller subset of states reported on hospitalizations and mortality by age; the available data indicated that COVID-19-associated hospitalization and death is uncommon in children," the report stated.In a press release, AAP President Dr. Sally Goza called the data “staggering and tragic.”"As a pediatrician who has practiced medicine for over three decades, I find this number staggering and tragic. We haven’t seen a virus flash through our communities in this way since before we had vaccines for measles and polio," Dr. Goza said. "And while we wait for a vaccine to be tested and licensed to protect children from the virus that causes COVID-19, we must do more now to protect everyone in our communities.
