(KGTV) - One day after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and locals in San Diego came together to honor the Notorious RBG.Related: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has diedA couple hundred people came together on the steps of Superior Court of San Diego on Union Street on Saturday night.While a few people shared remarks, mourners gathered with candles and flowers. Many people also wore collars, like RBG. A memorial on the steps of the Superior Court grew, filled with signs, flowers and candles.“It’s shaken some folks and we just want to come together and share our strength because ultimately we believe there is strength in unity,” said Lesa Thode, secretary for Women’s March San Diego.Thode said they wanted to give people a place to grieve and remember RBG together. She added that there will be more memorials in the near future that will be more accommodating for the Jewish community, who are in the middle of Rosh Hashanah. One attendee of the vigil was Felicia Rawlins, co-founder of the group Encinitas for Equality.“Came down here to grieve our loss of RGB and take a moment to really feel the feels before we start taking action,” said Rawlins.Many other attendees echoed the need to process, then use the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg to continue forward with the change she started. 1359

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat damaged the USS Midway Sunday.The mast of the sailboat collided with a safety net attachment on the front port-side ‘horn’ of the ship. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. according to Harbor Police.The mast of the sailboat snapped off. There was minor damage to the safety nets of the Midway.“I thought something fell off the flight line, I didn't think a boat would crash into the Midway,” said Craig Wiener, who was touring the Midway at the time of the crash. “We were looking out the little port windows, and you see the mast falling off into the water."Harbor patrol says no charges are expected and attributed the crash to inexperience on the part of the person steering the sailboat.  Eight people were onboard the sailboat, and none of them were hurt.“He didn't realize how close he was and how tall his mast was and it was too late and the wind pulled him in,” Wiener said. 945

SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV) - Four students have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Del Mar Union School District (DMUSD).The district has since launched a dashboard on its website to inform the school community about any active cases at each school.“We’re just being very transparent and keeping families informed,” said Jenni Huh, the Director of Student Services for DMUSD.Two students tested positive for COVID-19 at Sage Canyon School, one student tested positive at Sycamore Ridge School, and another student tested positive at Torrey Hills School.“We received the results directly from the families, and we were able to respond very quickly,” said Huh. “I’m very happy to say that they are doing very well, and we have not had any other cases.”Huh said all students and staff who came in contacted with those who tested positive are quarantined for 14 days.“If we learned of a presumed positive case, we would treat it exactly as the same way that we would respond to a confirmed positive,” she added.Parents are also notified if their child was potentially exposed to someone who possibly came in contact with someone who tested positive.At Sage Canyon, parents learned of the two positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend.By Monday, students in the two impacted classrooms were able to transition back to online learning.They will continue online learning during the two-week quarantine.DMUSD Superintendent Holly McClurg said district officials developed a Safe Reopening Plan over the summer to respond to these situations. She said the methods worked as expected.“To see children not miss a beat with their instruction has been great,” she said.While many parents may still have concerns sending their children off to school knowing this could happen at any moment, McClurg said the district’s goal is to be transparent and work with families to make the transition back to in-person learning go as smoothly as possible. 1933

(KGTV) -- Mexican authorities are investigating the discovery of a tunnel near the Otay Mesa border in San Diego, U.S. officials said.Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed the discovery Thursday morning but did not provide any further details.“At this time, U.S. authorities are aware of a tunnel discovered by Mexican law enforcement officials near the Otay Mesa border. However, we have not yet determined whether the tunnel entered into the U.S.," said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman with the DHS.All that is known at this time is that the tunnel is in Mexican territory, south of Otay Mesa which stretches east of 805 and south of the 905 freeways.10News station partner Televisa reports that the tunnel does cross the border. San Diego (KGTV)- Parents at several San Diego County high schools have been notified that students could have been exposed to Pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Carlsbad High School confirmed two cases last week. Monday, parents at Mt. Carmel High School were notified that students at that school may have been exposed to the infection, though it wasn't clear how many confirmed cases there have been at the school. “This is probably the most contagious bacterial disease,” says Eric McDonald, with the county’s Health and Human Services Department. “For every one person who has it, when they expose people who have not had or been immunized, they can infect up to 16 or 17 other people.”McDonald says symptoms of a typical cold are a runny nose, low-grade fever, and a cough. For someone who may have pertussis “its the persistence of the cough that should be the number one clue.”So far this year, in San Diego County, there have been over 70 confirmed cases of pertussis. “The number of cases in San Diego are higher than most of California, particularly for infants under the age of four months.”If your child has a cough that lasts almost two weeks, they should be treated by a doctor. McDonald recommends everyone get the DTaP shot to lower the risk of getting pertussis, especially pregnant women in their third trimester. 1347
