SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City leaders are deciding where to spend money in the next fiscal year. Wednesday’s meeting was the first step in the budget for the year. 10News spoke with Barbara Bry just before the meeting. “All nine of us have submitted our budget priorities. What’s interesting is there’s a lot of consensus among all of us as to how much the city should be allocating its funding," Bry said.The latest 10News-Union-Tribune polls shows the top issue as homelessness. It’s one of the issues Bry says will receive major support in next yea’s budget. Wednesday, the budget committee reviewed and adopted a set of funding priorities for what will be a priority for funding in the next fiscal year. The committee’s list is alphabetical at this point, so the issues aren’t ranked by importance. The list does, however, reflect what our poll uncovered: climate action, homelessness, parks and recreation facilities, public safety and sidewalk and street repairs are all important issues. As for our poll, homelessness and affordable housing came out on top at 21 and 20 percent respectively. Close behind is road repairs and further down the line, climate change, the Convention Center and mass transit. 10News asked Bry how the process will proceed. “The council will then discuss the priorities as a whole, then Mayor in April, then budget hearings in May.” 1380

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police need help finding a man accused of burglarizing a boat and leaving behind a meth pipe and his own feces. The owner of the boat, Donnie Vachon, is still trying to pick up the pieces since it happened. He's out thousands of dollars due to damage and stolen property."Put it in perspective, it's just a boat, but it's our boat, it's our family's boat, it's my grand-babies boat," said Vachon.The theft happened in September and since then Vachon has heard of two more boat burglaries.He says the same off-brand soda can was left on both his boat and one of the others burglarized."It's kind of a heartbreaker, you wake up and go to work every day and here it sits," said Vachon, looking at the boat parked in the driveway.Detectives have not yet confirmed whether the burglaries are connected but are looking into it.If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Padres players and city leaders surprised more than 140 elementary school students with new bicycles Friday.As part of the Padres Holiday Giving Tour, the team partnered with Bikes for Kids Foundation to gift 141 students at Horton Elementary School. At first, the group of second- and third-grade students thought they were gathered to learn which student had won a bicycle after an essay challenge. One name was read. But then a second student won. A third student had their name read.Just when the streak seemed to come alive, chants of "one more bike" broke out among the students. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 409 new coronavirus cases Thursday and a single-day record of 17 new deaths from the virus.Thursday's new cases had a 4% positive rate out of 10,434 reported tests, according to the county, bringing the region's total to 21,855 cases. The county's new deaths brought the county's death toll to 465. Eleven men and six women died between July 2 and July 15, and their ages ranged from 51 to 90 years of age. All but one had underlying conditions.The county also reported one new community outbreak traced to a gym, bringing the region's total to 14 community outbreaks in one week — double the region's trigger.Of the region's total COVID-19 cases, the county says 2,127 or 9.7% have needed hospitalization, and 558 or 2.6% of all cases and 26.2% of hospitalized cases were admitted to an intensive care unit.The county remained above the state’s threshold of no more than 100 cases per every 100,000 residents at 153.2 cases. 978
