How would you like to major in beer? That's right, you can now get a degree in brewing.With craft beer now a multi-billion dollar industry, we're learning more students are now studying the science of suds. Among those students is Chris Thibodeau, who recently graduated from Metropolitan State University in Denver, with a degree in brewery operations.“For the love of beer," says Thibodeau of the reason he decided on this major. Thibodeau says he's drawn to the process of making beer, as well as the beer community.A retired United States Air Force veteran, Thibodeau has turned his love of beer into a second career. He says that the brewery program is just as difficult as military life.“It's not just drinking beer and having a party,” he said. “It’s hard work but it's rewarding in the end.”As the craft beer industry continues to grow, there's now a growing number of colleges across the country offering what you could call "brewology" degrees.“Honestly, you get an incredible grounding in every aspect of what it takes to operate a brewery, what it means to make beer, what it takes to sell beer,” said Ethan Tsai, an MSU Denver beer industry program instructor. Tsai says brewing is a science. He also makes the curriculum sound like more of a headache than a hangover.“The microbiology that you need to know or understand to brew beer, the chemistry involved in that, its fairly extensive,” Tsai said. Four years of studying mathematical equations and malting barley has paid dividends for Thibodeau, as he recently received his degree during a special veteran’s graduation ceremony at the MSU Denver campus. He also accepted a part-time position at Tivoli Brewing Company in Denver.“This brewery program has been amazing,” he said. “Just the insight to all the different aspects of brewing and preparing us for any situation we might encounter in a brewery.”More veterans seem to share Thibodeau's passion for studying brewing science. Tsai says 15 percent of the students in MSU Denver's brewery operations program are US veterans. 2059

Former Penn State football player Isaiah Humphries has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming that other members of Penn State’s football team hazed him and the coaching staff was aware of it, ESPN reported. Humphries’ suit is against Penn State head coach James Franklin and former teammate Damion Barber. Humphries claimed that other teammates, including Barber, Micah Parsons, Yetur Gross-Matos, Jesse Luketa brought on the hazing, ESPN reported. Among the allegations, ESPN reported that Humphries alleged that players “facilitated a campaign to harass and haze underclassmen” on the team. Humphries claimed that a member of the team said "I am going to Sandusky you."Jerry Sandusky was a former Penn State coach convicted of sexually abusing children while on university property. Many university officials, including former head coach Joe Paterno were fired in the wake of the Sandusky scandal.Penn State released a statement to ESPN noting that no charges were filed. In accordance with our processes, the Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response and the Office of Student Conduct carried out investigations of the plaintiff's claims independent from Intercollegiate Athletics," the school said. Four major pro sports leagues in America, which are all currently holding preseason or regular season contests, jointly announced on Monday that locker room access will be cut to anyone deemed "non-essential," which includes reporters.The decision to curtail access to journalists to the locker rooms will be effective on Tuesday. With health officials encouraging the public to engage in social distancing, the leagues said it was necessary to protect the health of players, team officials and the media. But the announcement garnered a concerned response from professional sports writers, who say that locker room access is vital to sports reporting. The leaders of the AP Sports Editors, the Baseball Writers of America Association and other sports journalism organizations issued a statement on Monday."We are intent on working with the leagues, teams and schools we cover to maintain safe work environments," the statement read. "We also must ensure the locker room access — which we have negotiated over decades — to players, coaches and staff is not unnecessarily limited in either the short or long term. We look forward to open communication with the leagues as, together, we deal with this serious health matter."The decision also comes as the NHL and NBA prepare for the end of the regular season and start of the postseason. The MLS just kicked off its season last week, and MLB will get underway with its regular season later this month. GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A police K9 in Georgia died from heat exhaustion on Thursday while he was tracking a suspect, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department. Officers say it happened around 3 p.m. Eli was deployed to follow a suspect who was running away on foot after a vehicle pursuit.
