SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two men are dead and a woman is in critical condition after a car crashed into a Mission Valley bus stop Thursday.A driver collided with the three pedestrians in the 7500 block of Metropolitan Drive around 11 a.m. The driver remained at the scene for San Diego Police.One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other male victim was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Both victims were identified as men in their 40s.A 49-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police say.Police and a friend of the female victim say the three pedestrians were sleeping behind the bus stop with their belongings at the time of the crash. Jessica Nelson said she knew the 49-year-old woman and brought her some clothing and make-up earlier that day. She said she tried to convince her to go eat with friends, but the woman stayed with her husband, according to Nelson.Nelson said the pink bags strewn about the crash sight belonged to the victim, she called Kelly.Nelson said she met Kelly a year and a half ago at the bus stop where the accident took place. She said they are both battling heroin addiction and frequent the methadone clinic nearby.San Diego Police are investigating the crash.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 1301

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - University of San Diego's Lamont Smith resigned from his position as head men's basketball coach, the school announced in a news release late Wednesday night. "This situation has been difficult for all concerned, and our prayers continue to remain with everyone," the school said in the release.  Last month, Smith was arrested in the Bay Area. One new task on their plate is employee temperature checks and monitoring.New technology, however, is doing that for them. It’s called the GoSafe, a stand-alone tablet two San Diego companies developed. Using Qualcomm's chips, San Diego-based OneScreen built a device that takes temperatures and uses facial recognition to allow or deny access to different workplaces and schools.Additionally, the GoSafe can assist health investigators in contact tracing. If someone shows an elevated temperature, it will have a record of who else scanned in around the same time.“It is not only a race against the vaccine, it is a race to go back to normalcy,” said Sanjeet Pandit, Qualcomm’s director of smart cities.San Diego’s Fluid Sound is now working to install the devices at businesses around our region.It recently did so as a test at Hungry’s, and demonstrated how it can reject access for people without masks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While San Diego's Big Bay Boom and other popular fireworks shows are canceled this year, there are a handful of drive-in style events happening this weekend.In Vista, Poway, El Cajon, and Santee, fireworks displays are being hosted with social distancing in mind. Some of the shows require a ticket purchase to get prime viewing in a physical distancing atmosphere, or viewers can find street parking where allowed.Those who live nearby only need to look out their window!Fireworks displays have been canceled throughout much of California to limit gatherings and curb the spread of COVID-19. At any shows still being held, officials urge viewers to wear facial coverings and social distance around non-household members. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Wednesday, a San Diego City Council Infrastructure Committee was briefed on the progress of a downtown building that’s presently costing taxpayers millions and may end up costing tens of millions more.The 19-story building at 101 Ash Street was supposed to be about saving taxpayers money and improving communication among city employees. But some council members say it’s becoming a symbol for just the opposite."What people need to remember is this is tax-payer money," says Councilman David Alvarez.
