It’s been nearly nine months since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle. Though time has passed, those living in the remains of what Hurricane Michael left in its wake are struggling. Hurricane Michael was the first Category 5 Hurricane to strike the contiguous United States Since Andrew in 1992. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Hurricane Michael caused nearly billion in damage. However, nearly nine months since the storm, there is still plenty of damage and debris in Panama City, Panama City Beach, and Mexico Beach, where Michael hit the hardest. According to a REBUILD 850 survey released Tuesday, public support for Hurricane Michael recovery efforts in the Florida Panhandle is lacking. The results showed nearly half of respondents would do nothing to help people affected by the hurricane and nearly 75 percent said they would not consider donating money to help with relief efforts. Some affected by the hurricane said this could be because those across the country mistakenly think life has gone back to normal in the panhandle. As the new hurricane season approaches, many residents across the panhandle are still trying to recover from the Category 5 storm. E.W. Scripps went to the panhandle and spoke with those who are still trying to get their living situation back to normal. Some say they may have to move back into a home they say isn’t safe since their temporary living situation will no longer work. Others are living in their homes that still have damage and no insulation, living where inside temperatures reach 93 degrees. Ann Marie Dimeglio has lived in Panama City Beach for 17 years with her husband and three kids. “There are so many people who have it far worse than I do,” Dimeglio says. “We are all trying to get by after the storm. It’s not the same. People were struggling before the hurricane, and now with everything that’s going on, it’s just getting worse. But we’re all just trying to fight through it. You’re not living if you’re not fighting. I think a lot of us here just want people to know that things aren’t fine here. But we’ll keep fighting through it.”Watch the video to learn more about Dimeglio’s story and see how those living in the area are coping with life after Hurricane Michael. 2291

In his first TV interview since he was charged with sexual abuse last month, a tearful R. Kelly says he is "fighting" for his life.In a teaser for an interview that will air in full over two days starting Wednesday on "CBS This Morning," Kelly says allegations he slept with underage girls are not true and a product of "people," whom he did not identify specifically in the released clip, "going back to my past.""They're going back to the past and they trying to add all of this stuff now to that, to make all of the stuff that's going on now [feel] real to people," he tells Gayle King.At one point, Kelly points to the camera and says it would be stupid of him to hold girls against their will."Use your common sense. ... Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to; love me if you want. But just use your common sense," he says, raising his voice. "How stupid would it be for me ... with my crazy past and what I've been through?"Kelly then appears to begin crying."I didn't do this stuff. This is not me. I'm fighting for my f****** life."Kelly was indicted last month on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse -- a class 2 felony -- involving four alleged victims. The indictment accuses Kelly of sexual acts with three children older than 13 but younger than 17. There is no age range listed for one of the alleged victims. The charges say Kelly used force or the threat of force. His attorney, Steve Greenberg, has said his client is innocent."I think all the women are lying," Greenberg said after Kelly turned himself in to police. The charges span from 1998 to 2010, according to Cook County, Illinois, State's Attorney Kim Foxx.If convicted, Kelly faces three to seven years in prison for each count.Kelly has been associated with accusations of abuse, manipulation and inappropriate encounters with girls and young women for more than two decades. He has strongly denied the accusations. 1943

Joe Biden has formally clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, setting him up for a bruising challenge to President Donald Trump that will play out against the unprecedented backdrop of a pandemic, economic collapse and civil unrest. The former vice president has effectively been his party’s leader since his last challenger in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, ended his campaign in April. But Biden pulled together the 1,991 delegates needed to become the nominee after seven states and the District of Columbia held presidential primaries Tuesday. Biden reached the threshold three days after the primaries because several states, overwhelmed by huge increases in mail ballots, took days to tabulate results.Heading into Super Tuesday, Biden was the underdog. He lost contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and was struggling to fundraise. Then, Biden scored a huge win in South Carolina on February 29, thanks in large part to endorsements and support from prominent black Democrats in the state. Following the South Carolina race, opponents Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden. Biden was able to parlay his success in South Carolina into a massive Super Tuesday which catapulted the former vice president from underdog to favorite overnight. As the spread of COVID-19 forced Biden and opponent Bernie Sanders off the campaign trail, Sanders opted to drop out after the Wisconsin primary, leaving Biden standing alone.Biden will formally be nominated in August at the Democratic National Convention. The convention is slated to be held in Milwaukee, but it’s unknown if the coronavirus could interfere with having an in-person event. Biden issued the following statement late Friday:A little more than three months ago I stood on stage in South Carolina and told the American people that ours was a campaign for everyone who has been knocked down, counted out, and left behind. Those words take on an ever greater resonance today, at a time when so many Americans are hurting and have suffered so much loss. So many feel knocked down by the public health and economic crisis we are weathering. So many feel counted out and left behind by a society that has for too long viewed them as less than equal, their lives as less than precious. This is a difficult time in America’s history. And Donald Trump’s angry, divisive politics is no answer. The country is crying out for leadership. Leadership that can unite us. Leadership that can bring us together. We need an economy that works for everyone — now. We need jobs that bring dignity — now. We need equal justice — and equal opportunities — for every American now. We need a president who cares about helping us heal — now. It was an honor to compete alongside one of the most talented groups of candidates the Democratic party has ever fielded — and I am proud to say that we are going into this general election a united party. I am going to spend every day between now and November 3rd fighting to earn the votes of Americans all across this great country so that, together, we can win the battle for the soul of this nation, and make sure that as we rebuild our economy, everyone comes along. Today, I’m once again asking every American who feels knocked down, counted out, and left behind, to join our campaign. Because we aren't just building the movement that will defeat Donald Trump, we are building the movement that will transform our nation. I truly believe that when we stand together, finally, as One America, we will rise stronger than before. This is the United States of America. There is nothing we can’t do, if we do it together. 3674

In a world of dating apps and websites, many people are still going the old-fashion route of speed dating. Some say it’s better than ever. "Speed dating is a way to meet people face to face in a 6-minute mini-date format," says Michael Clarke, who runs Pre-Dating Speed Dating. Clarke says people dating later in life are frustrated with the apps and the online quest to find love. "Prior to marriage, or when they were younger, they met people face to face,” Clarke says. “This is what their comfort zone is." Jodie Lopes is done swiping right and left on dating apps. "It's really about always putting your best foot forward all the time. I just want to be myself," she says. So, Lopes is participating in this speed dating event that’s for midlife singles only. And this place is packed! Lori Chapman, a divorced mother, is also here, looking for her match. Chapman says online dating scares her and speed dating is more her speed. “I'm old school, and face-to-face is the best," she says. Chapman says the men at speed dates are more genuine than the ones online. "The guys are more on a mission that they are here for a reason,” she says.If you’re a midlife single, both Chapman and Lopes say try speed dating, but do it with an open mind. Organizer Clarke says you’ll never know who you might meet."Most people come to one to two, sometimes three events, just to test the waters see if they meet anybody,” Clarke says. “But I can tell you this, I just had my 68th marriage in the last eight years." 1526
