Two police officers were shot Wednesday evening in Louisville amid protests following an announcement that the two officers involved in fatally shooting Breonna Taylor would not be criminally charged, Louisville Metro Police Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed.The officers are in "very serious condition," but they're expected to survive their injuries, Schroeder told reporters. One of the officers needed surgery following Wednesday's incident. Two Kansas girls whose disappearance from a Kansas home triggered a multi-state Amber Alert on Saturday were found safe in Oklahoma.The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Saturday night that it has recovered the girls and taken their father, 40-year-old Donny Jackson of Leavenworth, Kansas, into custody.Earlier on Saturday, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that Jackson may have been involved in the homicides of two other children, who were found dead at the home from where the girls had been abducted.The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at a home around 1 p.m. local time Saturday, where deputies located two deceased juvenile males and discovered two young girls were missing.It's unknown exactly when the double homicide or the abduction occurred. Two people have been killed in an explosion at a Veteran's Affair hospital in Connecticut, according to WTNH-TV and The New Haven Register.A VA spokesperson told WTNH that the explosion at the West Haven hospital was caused by a steam valve. The explosion occurred in a building that was not housing patients. Those who were killed were not patients at the hospital.According to The Associated Press, state and federal investigators are responding to the incident. Two conservative activists have been charged with multiple felonies in Michigan for a series of false robocalls that aimed to dissuade urban residents in Detroit and other cities from voting by mail. Jacob Wohl, 22, and Jack Burkman, 54, each were charged Thursday with four felony counts in Detroit, including intimidating voters in violation of election law, conspiracy and using a computer to commit crimes. The calls falsely warned residents in majority-Black Detroit and urban areas in at least four other states that voting by mail in the Nov. 3 election could subject people to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination. In August, the men denied involvement. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says the pair created and funded them.“Any effort to interfere with, intimidate or intentionally mislead Michigan voters will be met with swift and severe consequences,” Nessel said. “This effort specifically targeted minority voters in an attempt to deter them from voting in the November election.
