SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews rescued a paraglider who crashed into a dangerous Torrey Pines bluff Friday.SDFD crews arrived at the site of the crash at around 1 p.m. Sky10 footage showed the person clinging to the cliff, wrapped in the wreckage of a broken glider, just over a section of Blacks Beach.Lt. Rich Stropky says the man was in training to become a paragliding pilot. He apparently attempted to make a left hand turn away from the bluff but lost control near Saddle Back ridge, said Stropky.RELATED: Cliff, air rescue numbers on rise in San Diego CountyCrews were able to airlift the person from the cliffside just after 2 p.m. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for his injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials say free flu shots will be offered at six events in the coming days, just as flu season picks up around the county.Health officials say this helps lower the risk of San Diegans getting influenza and the coronavirus at the same time and prevent the local healthcare system from being overwhelmed.The upcoming clinics will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first flu shot clinic will occur on Oct. 22 at North Central Public Health Center, 5055 Ruffin Road.The others will take place:-- Saturday, Oct. 24 at South Public Health Center, 690 Oxford Street, Chula Vista.-- Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North Coastal Public Health Center, 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Oceanside.-- Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Central Public Health Center VIP Trailer, 3177A Oceanview Blvd.-- Thursday, Oct. 29 at East Public Health Center, 367 N. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society officials are searching for the person responsible for abandoning a dog in a San Pasqual Valley canyon recently.A grove manager at Bandy Canyon found the neglected dog Friday, according to society officials. The male dog appeared to be an about 2-year-old pit bull mix.The dog was taken to the humane society's Escondido campus, where a veterinary team gave it IV fluids and placed it on a heated bed, as its temperature was low.Because of the dehydrated, neglected condition of the dog, the society's law enforcement arm has opened a felony animal cruelty investigation.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or SDHS law enforcement at 619-299-7012.This week's incident is the third similar incident to occur in the last month. In February, nine puppies were found abandoned at Kit Carson Park in a dog food bag. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group are returning home after 294 days.Sailors left from their home port in Virginia in April and saw their deployment extended twice before coming to their new home port of Coronado.P02 John Aportela is one of the the 6,000 sailors that made up the strike group. Like many parents, he met his 6-month-old daughter for the first time.“I’m blessed to be back and I thank God for bringing us back safe." Sailors and Marines were involved with maritime security and combat missions while working with allies, including France, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Oman.Those missions took the crew across the globe to places like Singapore, Saipan, Philippines, Japan, Israel, Thailand, Australia, Maldives, Hong Kong, and other locations. The strike group's Helicopter Marine Strike Squadron 79, or "The Griffins," returned to NAS Coronado Sunday ahead of the carrier's arrival. That team was supposed to return before Halloween, but had their employment extended.The group's 10-month deployment was the longest carrier deployment since the Cold War.
