SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the soaring cost of housing across the county, many San Diegans are wondering if they can afford to buy. New data shows what 0K will get you in San Diego compared to other parts of the country. According to Property Shark, you could, on average, buy a 496 square foot home for 0,000. The same amount of money would buy you more than 3,300 square feet in El Paso and more than 3,200 in San Antonio. In contrast, 0K only buys you 126 square feet in Manhattan. RELATED: How much you need to earn to buy a home in San Diego CountyCheck out the map below for more cities:So what does that actually look like? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Whether you're into cars, fashion, history, or current events, you could find it in a magazine at Paras News. Now the beloved North Park newsstand is closing down after 70 years."For a lot of people, they're here every day. It's their mainstay," said Ken Gabbara, owner of Paras News for the last 11 years. Health concerns are just one of the reasons he's letting the iconic shop go. RELATED: Several popular San Diego restaurants to close after CEO accused in 0 million fraud scheme"The Internet has worn us down because they're bigger and stronger than us. You can't compete with something they give away for free for the most part," said Gabbara. At one time, they sold over 4,000 types of magazines, but with less published nowadays, that number dropped to 2,500.Longtime customers are sad to see the neighborhood establishment go. "It's going to be missed, it's really going to be missed," said Sharon Maynard, a customer of 35 years.Maynard fell in love with the literary and poetry magazines. "Now they just go online, but for me, there's nothing better than having it in your hand in print," said Maynard. Also sad to see the newsstand go is manager Kent Snyder, who's worked at Paras for 33 years. RELATED: Restaurant closures highlight industry struggles in San Diego"We made an effort to bring stuff into the store that other places don't carry, when they asked for it I ordered it," Snyder.Employees invite the community to buy one more magazine, so they have something of Paras News to hold onto. "We're one of a kind," said Gabbara. Paras News will remain open until the end of December. 1630

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There are numerous books written by Navy SEALs, most about combat. But a former SEAL from San Diego is turning the tables, writing a book about success in business called, “Taking Point: A Navy SEAL’s 10 Fail-Safe Principles For Leading Through Change.” In the book, author Brent Gleeson uses the principles of teamwork he learned in SEAL training and how that culture can lead to success for any growing company. These days you'll find Brent Gleeson in a blazer, on a stage, speaking all over the world to business leaders. But just a few years ago Gleeson’s attire of choice was desert camo, accessorized with the most high-tech equipment as a member of the world's most elite fighting force. However, before his time as a SEAL, Gleeson was in graduate school at SMU in Dallas, he worked in finance, and was an entrepreneur. The blending of those two lives led to this. His newly released book, “Taking Point.”     "It's not your typical SEAL book that gives you some leadership philosophies but actually teaches you how to successfully lead lasting change in any company or organization," said Gleeson. The book contains simple philosophies derived directly from his experience training for and on SEAL combat teams. Like surviving BUD/s training, something only 20 percent of candidates who enter the program ever finish to become Navy SEALs eventually. 1404

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after police say she stole a vehicle with two children inside.Police say Rodney Cole left his 3-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter in his car with the engine and air conditioner running around noon on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue. After he went into a business, a witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Leslie Saenz, get into the car and drive away with the children inside.Monday night Cole explained the terrifying ordeal to 10News.His 8-year-old daughter, Malaiha, told police she was able to call the police and tell dispatchers that she and her brother Jackson had been kidnapped. "They said, '911 whats your emergency?' and I said, 'me and my little brother got kidnapped,'" Malaiha said. "and (police) said, 'where are you and what can you see?' and I said, 'signs for the Mexico border.'""(The woman) tried to take the phone away from me but I moved away from her, and she said, 'give it to me, or I’m going to drive in circles and take this car and crash into the freeway wall.'"That's when she gave the phone to the woman, but the police acted quickly.  Roughly 30 minutes later after the car was stolen, Border Patrol detained the woman as she was trying to cross the border into Mexico.  Police have since taken Saenz into custody.Cole told 10News he bought the phone for the kids a few months ago, but it's not an activated line. He taught Malaiha how to call 911 on the phone, in case of emergencies. "I'm very proud of her," he said. 1616
