(KGTV) — Poor road conditions and speed are being blamed for a solo-vehicle crash that left one person dead.California Highway Patrol said a Mitsubishi Montero was traveling northbound on State route 67, just north of Shady Bend, at about 6 a.m. Friday when it entered a slight curve on the roadway. Puerto Rico was hit with a massive power outage, the power authority said Thursday -- nearly seven months after Hurricane Maria destroyed much of the island's infrastructure and its electrical grid.The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, known as PREPA, said a tree fell on a major power line, knocking out service to 870,000 customers, about half of its clients. The utility tweeted an image it says was of the tree that fell across a power line near the southeast mountain town of Cayey.Major blackouts were reported from the northern coastal town of Manatí to Yabucoa, roughly 50 miles southeast.The blackout also includes the capital of San Juan, the most populated area of the island."We are devastated at this point," Cynthia García Coll, an educational psychologist who lives near San Juan, told CNN. President Donald Trump says he has issued a pardon to his longtime ally Roger Stone, according to a statement from the White House.Stone, who was convicted of several crimes in connection to the investigation launched by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, was set to begin a 40-month prison sentence on Tuesday."Roger Stone is a victim of the Russia Hoax that the Left and its allies in the media perpetuated for years in an attempt to undermine the Trump Presidency," the White House statement read. "There was never any collusion between the Trump Campaign, or the Trump Administration, with Russia."Stone was briefly and advisor to the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. Though he left the campaign in controversy, he still supported Trump and the campaign on his behalf. He's alleged to have made contact with WikiLeaks, the organization that published a trove of hacked emails linked to the Clinton campaign.Stone was convicted of seven counts of lying to Congress, obstruction of justice and witness tampering in connection with his testimony during a House Intelligence Committee and his attempts to have a friend lie to investigators on his behalf.Upon his conviction, federal attorneys recommended Stone serve a prison sentence of between seven and nine years. However, the Department of Justice quickly rescinded that resignation, calling it excessive. In response, all the federal attorneys on the case resigned, and Attorney General Bill Barr was criticized for his department's rescinding of the recommendation."Mr. Stone would be put at serious medical risk in prison. He has appealed his conviction and is seeking a new trial," the White House statement read. "He maintains his innocence and has stated that he expects to be fully exonerated by the justice system. (KGTV) - A Ramona couple walking their yellow Labrador puppy say they were attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday night, suffering serious injuries.Michael Dougherty was walking with his wife, Dee, in the Kmart parking lot in the 1800 block of Main Street training their puppy, Rueger. Dougherty said it's easier in the parking lot, as there is more light, compared to their rural neighborhood.As they walked toward the Taco Shop, around 7:15 p.m., Dougherty said from the corner of his eye, he saw two pit bulls charging.RELATED: Dog and owner mauled by pit bull during walk in OceansideThey attacked Rueger and his wife, who went down trying to rescue the dog. Dougherty is recovering from a back injury and walks with a cane. He used it as a weapon."I just started beating the dog, beating the dog, until it [the cane] snapped. This fell down alongside the dog and my wife and she grabbed this and was jamming it into the dog's mouth. When this broke I started punching the dog in the head."Eventually they were able to separate all three dogs. No one escaped uninjured. Several groups led by Native American activists are planning protests for Trump’s July 3 visit, part of his “comeback” campaign for a nation reeling from sickness, unemployment and social unrest. But it comes amid a national reckoning over racism and a reconsideration of the symbolism of monuments around the globe. Many Native American activists say the Rushmore memorial is as reprehensible as the many Confederate monuments being toppled around the nation.The president's plans are also raising questions about fireworks safety. A fire expert says a fireworks display planned at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial is “ill advised” given the abnormally dry conditions and risk of summer wildfires. Earlier this month, he said shooting fireworks over the extremely flammable ponderosa pine forest should not be done.
