SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A lifelong San Diego resident says he's sick of seeing overgrown brush in local medians — and he's willing to put himself in the weeds to resolve it.Adam Huntington says the weeds are giving local beach towns a bad look."Great people, great vibes, unfortunately our aesthetics aren't matching up to the great vibes right now," Huntington says. Next to a traffic sign, he says, "the weed was literally growing this high all around this."While some may be used to the weeds sprouting from Mission Blvd. medians, Huntington said he can't ignore the eyesore anymore. "I don't think anyone wants to see their beach look like this when the come to visit it," Huntington said.So the mortgage loan officer has been cleaning up the medians in his spare time. He first uses a weed wacker to cut down the brush, then rakes out the weeds, and finally sweeps and cleans them up. He's been posting his progress on social media. And it's not just Mission Beach.Clairemont Lutheran Church is doing similar work, organizing volunteers to clean up overgrown medians.Huntington has complained to the city and is frustrated with their response. But officials tell us they are trying to make this issue a priority.The mayor's allocated over a million dollars for vegetation and brush abatement in the current fiscal year. With that money the city has cleaned up weeds on 42 miles of median, completing more than 200 requests since July 1. The city blames excessive weed and vegetation growth to the wet winter and spring. Huntington plans to tackle other areas of the city, and says he'd be pleasantly surprised if the city beats him to it. 1646

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died late Saturday night after a home caught fire in Paradise Hills.Fire crews say the fire erupted just after 10 p.m. on Calle Cumbre Street.Neighbors in the area reported hearing a loud boom before flames could be seen bursting from the homeFirefighters say neighbors then began breaking windows in an attempt to get the people trapped inside the home out.The two men inside the home were taken to the hospital where one of them died. The second man is in unknown condition.Fire investigators have ruled the fire accidental.  566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of breaking into a Pacific Beach home and sexually assaulting a sleeping woman earlier in the month, San Diego Police said.Jeffrey Hanze, also known as Jeffrey Hanre, was taken into custody in Los Angeles County by sheriff’s deputies at 3:45 a.m. No details about the arrest were released.Hanze entered a home in Pacific Beach through an open window about 2 a.m. the morning of October 1, San Diego Police said. RELATED: Police release photo of Pacific Beach sexual assault suspectInvestigators said Hanze sexually assaulted the woman who was sleeping, but left when she woke up.Hanze was considered armed and dangerous at the time of his arrest.10News checked Hanze's criminal background and found he has at least two felonies out of San Diego. He was also charged with several sex crimes in Arizona in 2011, including public sexual indecency, indecent exposure to a person 15 years old or more, and disorderly conduct. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple gun charges in a Tucson, Arizona federal court.Joshua Pratchard came to the FBI's attention after a short-lived attempt to join what prosecutors call a border militia group in Arizona in January 2018. The group kicked Pratchard out after just a few days, saying he did not want to follow their rules, including repeatedly asking to get physical with detainees and demanding to put a silencer on his weapon. He was also deemed eager for confrontations with criminal bandits known as "rip crews" who seek to steal drug loads in the desert.Pratchard continued to be involved in activity in Arizona, leading to contact with a member of the group who was a FBI informant. Pratchard revealed that he manufactured and sold weapons. The informant reported this to the FBI, which led to an investigation. Eventually, Pratchard was arrested after selling firearms to the informant. A search of Pratchard's apartment in Pacific Beach led to the discovery of a "gun factory." Along with the machinery to build firearms and bullets, agents found four homemade guns and enough gunpowder for 9,000 rounds of ammunition.The FBI investigation also discovered Pratchard's criminal history, which includes a conviction for having ecstasy when he was serving in the Marine Corps, and a 2007 felony assault conviction.Although he has been sentenced on the gun charges, Pratchard's legal trouble may not be over. During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors made multiple references to a non-profit organization Pratchard ran in San Diego which could see fraud charges filed in the future. 10News uncovered Pratchard's involvement leading a charity known as "Second Chance Fields," which is dedicated to rebuilding or refurbishing athletic fields at San Diego schools. His website touts to significant projects, including renovation of the baseball field at Mission Bay High School and a large-scale renovation of football and lacrosse facilities at Del Norte High School. For the latter project, Pratchard recruited former San Diego Padres star Adrian Gonzalez, who appeared at a press conference with Pratchard at the school and whose foundation donated ,000, according to the Second Chance Fields website.10News asked the FBI if there was an investigation underway into Pratchard and Second Chance Fields.
